Switch version

Thanks, I literally wrote down the invisible frog differences and then forgot to calculate them in entirely. For the red cyrstal area, let's look at the difference as being comprised of three things:

  • On the PC version, regardless of when you visit the red crystal area, you have to walk from the obelisk to the left platform to fly away. This is about 8 seconds of extra walking before you can sing, timed from my PC version PB.
  • On the PC version, you can't fly from right next to the tiny frog pipe. You'd have to walk all the way back to the save point. That's about 6 seconds, timed by comparing your PC version PB to Wesker's 37:28.
  • If you substitute the tiny frog pipe for the lava frog pipe (on the assumption that you're able to fly away), the total time difference to reach the obelisk is about 13 seconds. (I measured this comparing my Switch PB to Wesker's 37:28.)

Good reminder on the extra obelisk on the way to lava area. Obelisk animations cost about 7 seconds. Looks like the invisible frog shenanigans amount to about 15 seconds for the firefly and about 6-7 seconds to load up the right frog.

I think all the tiny frog puzzle changes are time neutral. You can still do a similar fast setup either way.

In total that sounds like there about 45 seconds of advantage for Switch in any%:

  • Gain 7 on invisible frog for preloaded frog.
  • Gain 15 on invisible frog for caged firefly.
  • Gain 19 by taking tiny frog pipe instead of lava pipe and instead of having to walk back to the tiny frog checkpoint to fly away.
  • Gain 8 not having to walk from the red crystal obelisk to the left platform.
  • Gain some small number not having to wait for electric slugs to explode.
  • Lose 7 to an extra obelisk.
  • Lose a small number walking the extra block near the giant frog.
  • Menuing to reset level after giant is also probably very slightly faster on Switch than on PC.

There's also the 4-5 seconds doing Invisible before Large on Switch. But ya, i was thinking roughly 45-60 second overall. I just timed the block before Large Frog, it is a 7 second timeloss (from the moment you stop to whistle and turn around, until you walk back across the same spot).

A thought for a minor timesave at Tiny frog for PC, "Reset Level" after tiny spins to enter, then either use the checkpoint a few steps to the left, or just head right to the beginning of the game, taking out the mask guy with the lightbug just as you enter back in the area. I can't test this myself, may end up pickin up the steam version sometime soon just to test things.

Interesting! They moved the second bat from the right, one tile to the right on Switch! So your strat doesn't work on PC.

BUT, because of you, I found out that it still works on PC if I stomp after chirping. The honker bug is then prevented from honking (and jumps to the right as well).

Important mechanic: his honk seems to be delayed a little bit if you chirp more than once. I had noticed this in the grass watering section, but it was inconsequential there.

So with the 30 or so seconds I lost in my recent run, and this +/-10, and with the extra door skips I failed ... we're gonna be seeing a 34 soon. I'm just going through a complete thorough check throughout the route looking for minor things that stand out. The trick I need to get 100% consistent is the 2 portal bug glitches. I can do them, and know how they work ... but they can go so bad so quickly.

Here's a useless strat (unless you can improve it significantly).

I went crazy last night and tried and tried to get the wide block down the stack both small blocks and get them across to break the bat bridge ... not for a strat but just to do it ... got a decent setup going but forgot about the bigger wall next to bat bridge. Still that is pretty slick you did, waar.

Beat my 2:07 with a 2:06 on Tiny split when i streamed a couple days ago, perfect birds will never happen again :(

waarschijn suggested this while I was trying to find clips into molehills :P his eyes are more focused than mine, and it is faster by 2-3 seconds , maybe a tad more. there's a rhythmic timing to chirping and stepping to keep up with. not in this clip, but once the bigger block falls in lava just hold leftt and thinner one will fall before you bump into it

hcfwesker figured out why the portal sometimes doesn't work. It has nothing to do with the slug. It happens when you touch the portal and the bubble at the same time. The game thinks you went through the portal. Apparently, it always disables the exit portal temporarily, to prevent you from going back in again right after teleporting. Presumably, the exit portal is then re-enabled once you pass a certain point below it. But since you never went through, it remains disabled and you pass through. I have been unable to reproduce the glitch on PC! I bet it has to do with how bubbles have been changed on Switch again... The glitch can be avoided by just standing on the ledge instead of jumping in. The bubble catches you anyway.

Also, here's a dumb RNG/timing strat in the preceding part: let the electric slug walk on the block, but don't transport it to the left, just put a one tile gap. The lizard can cross the cap and squash the slug, but only some of the time. It depends on the other slugs' positions. https://i.imgur.com/r9OQDds.jpg

Mannnnnn it felt so good to finally understand and prevent that portal bug issue. Always been nerve racking gettin to that spot in a run.

Interesting setup on the block, but too situational ... maybe when 33 attempts pop up xD

Also, waar, here's a clip from the hugging bird I mentioned last night.

Weird. It seems like the bird picked you up at the same frame you landed the stomp, so you had control while being carried. Then pressing up to go into the ladder climbing animation. Or something.

Yeah such YOLO strats are more for when you're far behind and want to reset anyway, or when the run becomes completely optimized.

Was skimming Wesker's VOD from yesterday. In that room you get to from the tiny frog area, the molehill that appears open on the Switch version is actually already open. You can simply go in right away without waiting for the animation.

Here to destroy all hopes and dreams, with further testing; I used the wings to position myself to the closest spot i could get the fly to the water. As you see, when I land it actual shifts me a pixel or 2 ( to where I should be standing if i had walked). And, sadly, it doesnt kill the mask.

That's a real shame. I guess it might at least be possible to cut off the bubble on the left side a little sooner and only recover one of the fireflies, but the tiny time save almost certainly doesn't warrant the precision of positioning the flies to deactivate the middle mask with only three.

United States

That ... and I'm kinda leaning that it is faster to just float up to the 2 fireflies and just walk off to the right. You keep the flies more intact with you to position them to stomp and group with the other 2. Also found a minimal frames saver at that same spot involving the frog eating the bubble. Got a few other spots like that I've been testing as well, finding very minimal timesaves. Like invisible frog setup, pop the frog bubble under the bridge, rather than climbing up and popping the bubble (saves 4 seconds if you get both bugs to drop with 1 stomp above Invisi).

Came across this accidentally but nothing i'd put too much reliability on (situational if bird is close to that side, saves about 3 seconds if you dont turn spikeguy to face right)

seen this during a streamers casual a couple days ago. was on Switch version. havent tested myself for any consistency but seems stompin to delay any bugs aggro may have mire uses that we thought.

New Strat to add to the intro. It tight, but doable; gettin it somewhat consistently. Saves 2-3 stomps and backtracking across the bridge
