yea u guys just keep your head up ass then i guess. I don't need why it would hurt to add some time to the jp version so u have fun with that

Jeez, calm down. I have personally been on the side of doing something about it rather than nothing but there's no reason to get hostile over it. The problem lies that we don't know for certain the time difference.

Watching the Japanese run, i'm pretty sure there is at least a 1 minute difference between the NTSC and PAL version. The Japanese's gamepad is even disconnected for 12 secondes in his run lol, and he has still no problem beating the previous WR, not sure that's really fair for US/EU runners. Anyway I'm not running on console, so whatever for me, but you know... Equality between runners and stuff like that.

And what's up with that "just buy the japanese version" argument, come on man, that game is enough expensive so buying it twice would just be nonsense for lowbudget runners. People here are just pointing out a problem, so you, and us players, can resolve it properly

Looks like they also had a choice to get the version the rest of the world uses.

"And what's up with that "just buy the japanese version" argument, come on man, that game is enough expensive so buying it twice would just be nonsense for lowbudget runners. "

it's like seventy bucks, I completely do not buy this argument. It's the price of a regular new video game, with a slight markup for shipping. It is absolutely not a ridiculous budget-breaking thing. Ignoring the fact that price is a non-argument anyway, the price of JP RE7 isn't even particularly high. If you bought RE7 on release, you probably could've afforded the japanese version.

it actually kind of blows my mind how often this keeps being used as an argument, it's a completely ordinary price for an import game and even if it was really expensive it still wouldn't be a compelling argument

Last night I received my JPN import for the PS4. I'm in the process of finishing up unlocking all the ng+ items, I'm nearly done with getting infinite ammo and will be doing that after work today. I did not get the Grotesque version which is CERO Z, I got the CERO D version of the game. This means that everything is censored. All scenes of dismemberment have been replaced in one form or another.

This brings me to the point. So far, I can confirm that the snake key is not the only built in save. One of these saves comes during Jack 2. In the us-ntsc version, and the pal, you have to wait until jacks legs take a few steps and fall before you can start the animation to open the door. In the CERO D version of the game jack does not explode and his body remains whole, because of the censored dismemberment. He just dies and falls to the ground. You can immediately start the animation to open the door as soon as you kill jack.

At the start of the game it appears that you may save approximately a second from where Mia cuts your hand off In the hallway. I need to compare the video from this version to a previous video before I can say with certainty though because it isn't clear.

There are also parts of the game where it seems that your movement speed is faster than the us-ntsc version. I haven't verified it yet, I'll be making a run tonight that I can compare with after I unlock infinite ammo, but all areas in the game where you walk through water just feel faster in jpn-ntsc. I know this is basically just speculation until I verify it, and obviously I could be wrong, but it seems noticeably different while playing.

I thought this might be worth taking into consideration on deciding what to do with the pc versions, if anything should be done at all. Once I get a run in and I have video to compare with I'll try to verify whether or not the differences in speeds are real.

I too am getting a PAL version of the game any day soon and will also be checking where else there are big differences as well

If someone can detail difference between the western, grotesque and non-grotesque (fully censored) versions of RE7, that would be of great help.

If people are unsure if particular sections help save time, pop the videos up on dropbox, google drive etc and all of us can help compile frame data for each scene in question.

I'll take a hand in comparison of regions, but you're doing the lords work here zgl; the snake key is like 13 seconds; but I can confirm that once my autosplitter split once jack died, now I only get it split when he falls to the floor and there is a 20 second difference there before I can open the door, you could be looking at like 35 seconds from two scenes that are like 20 seconds apart, who knows what other saves there are in the game.

If you could compile all the different parts you think there are timesaves and save vids of CERO D and regular game version we can compare frames like Liv said to find out how big of a difference there really is.

It's interesting how there are different censored versions too, it must just be commonplace in the east that they sell lots of different versions in store too.

inb4 Xbox, PS and steam add in game options for censorship and solve the whole problem, capcom give us a miracle.

Or maybe we should contact capcom; the company I work for are in contact with capcom head office due to our business we handle commercial licensing with their games, maybe I can get a high up contact and sweet talk them into adding it Kappa

I made a couple of clips of early things during my madhouse run to unlock the ammo that I remembered being odd. The censorship on Mia cutting off the hand and the censorship on Lucas' arm being cut off do nothing to time. I didn't think the Lucas one was different timewise, but the Mia one throws you off because the screen goes black for a moment. It seemed, in the moment, that it was faster but it just threw me off, probably because I wasn't expecting it since I had only seen jpn grotesque runs before. I had the jpn and us versions side by side and the animations are identical with exception of the blackout and the item she stabs you with. The clip I took of going through the water at the start of the game corrupted on my ps4 somehow, of course, so I don't have anything on that one yet. I'll be keeping my eyes open for oddities during my next run and I'm certain that a couple of the other console runners that I regularly talk to will help with looking for things that are just off. I will test out what ever we think we see between the two versions and pass it along.

I need to make more than one run obviously to be conclusive about things but from the video I have from the CERO D run, the movement in the water is the same across versions.

After watching the end of the Jack 2 fight against multiple runs it appears that the CERO D version saves 10 seconds, someone who has a better PC may be able to frame check it to get more specific. and a link to download it,

I included the whole Jack 2 fight, which I messed up, and some additional time after the chainsaw breaks so there's enough padding in case you want to see more. My assumed 10 second save is by counting the time it takes from when Jack says "You're going to die here" to the moment that the chainsaw breaks.

A moment that is inconclusive about any time save or loss in the CERO D version is in the Jack 1 fight. They censor animation more than in the grotesque version by not having the shovel go all the way through the head, but more than that, afterwards they change the animation that Jack does once he removes the shovel from the deputies head and instead of beating on the deputy Jack turns around to grab the shovel from the shelf behind him, even though he already had it, lol. Anyhow, this does seem to change how/where jack is standing and could be affecting time but I can't tell based on this run alone. So, here is a link to watch the video and a link to download a copy of the video as well

So far this is all that I've found in the CERO D version, besides the snake key that everyone already knew about. I'll keep my eyes open for other points of significance/interest and post anything I find. If anyone is watching a CERO D run and you notice something that you would like to see be tested let me know with some amount of detail and specifically what it is you think may be happening or that you think you're seeing and I will be happy to test it out.
