Biggest Time Saves in Any%

So I was wondering what the biggest and most crucial time saves in the any% route are. I wanna know so I know what is best to practice. Please don’t mention:

Anything NOT in version 1.2.0 Mecha Broodal Skip Klepto Skip Moon Cave Skip T-Rex Skip Jaxi Skip

Thanks! :)

The first thing I would do is get each of the small broodal bosses consistent. Missing a cycle on any of them usually loses about 6-10 seconds. The other main thing is getting your movement cleaner and adding small optimizations over time. Just try a couple strats you've seen that save a couple seconds and see if you want to add them to the run. But don't add too many at once, maybe one or two in each kingdom. Overall, it's up to you how you practice and there's no set way to do it. Do what you feel comfortable with.

Yeah, my broodals are more or less optimized. The problem is, its hard to practice story-specific things like Mecha Wiggler and Mecha broodal... I was thinking of adding a few spin pounds here and there to my run?

Spin pounds save all of 5 seconds

So, if I were to optimize the skips listed in my first post on this thread, what things does WR do that makes them 20-ish minutes overall ahead of me?

Better movement and more practice. You've only done one run right, the top people have done hundreds

i'm not sure what your splits were like but watch some of the world records, make sure your doing the right routes, practise the jumps that you might be failing (night metro jump, sand kingdom has a lot of time save and a few tricky jumps). the first bowser fight takes only a minute not even if you do it right so practice that if you haven't. when i was first running the game i was using "witwix's" speedrun as a reference on how to do it as its not super optimized but still pretty solid and easy to learn (his time is about 1:17:00) hope that helps

Oh right, I needa learn advanced Bowser strats... I will look into that. I am also doing some things that are sort of old, like bird on the building in Sand, but they are because of less risk.

While these are all timesaver, the easiest and most effective way to improve is just to improve movement. Set up practice files, play through each kingdom loads of times, that is the pretty much only way to get better.

I recommend practicing bosses missing cycles on any boss usually will waste more time than messing up movement in kingdoms. Presuming the mess up does not cause a death. If you have intermediate level movement, no deaths, and excellent boss fights, you are garunteed to get at least sub 1:15. From there you can look at smaller optimizations like spin pounds, left side triple jump, and 2d shortcut just to name a few.

What's the worst boss to lose a cycle on?

really every boss costs time for missing a cycle, i would say broodle mech for sure costs the most time, bowser himself isnt too bad and the metro robot thing (don't remember its name lol) is probably in between. I've spent about an hour practicing each (for example on the bowser fight i just kill myself when i pick up the third hat so i can try again). also i don't know if it was mentioned but i also like to practice moon skip and the bowser fight before every run (i have a moon kingdom and a cloud kingdom save)

The problem with those is they are all one time story specific fights.

The Mecha broodle would most likely be the worst, it is the hardest trick to do in the game because of its movement and it could cost you minutes if you mess up bad so mecha broodle would most likely need the most practice

just kill yourself right before you kill the boss, then you can practice over and over again. when your fight bowser and grab the hat for the 3rd time jump off the map when you get on top of the broodle mech for the last gorundpound, jump off and kill yourself when your fighting the metro robot thingo, when it goes purple the second time and your about to kill it, just die or load a different save.
