Why or why not? 🤔 Some have voiced their opinions so I wanted to actually put that into a forum post/poll. You can leave a vote in the strawpoll if you're not the talkative type or if you want, post your thoughts here.

All feedback is appreciated.

I suppose if I created this, my stance is needed to get this rolling:

If you as a moderator have not provided anything for a community in a very long time, whether it be a guide, a forum post/reply, your own speedrun, or a verification of a run, you should probably step down considering there are others that would fill those shoes rather well. It's not a matter of being mean or any of the sort and it should never be taken as such. It's a matter of passing the baton and telling the next guys in line "Good luck, dude. I had a lotta fun with this and I hope you have fun too."

If a moderator steps out of line, it's not hard for a super mod to lay the hammer down. I know this, because I'm a super mod for my speedgame. I actually removed someone recently due to 100% inactivity.

Again, this is a post for those people who feel the need to voice their stances on this because it has been brought up before. I could have lived and lost no sleep not voicing mine, but nobody has stepped up to make a post like this. I hope what I said is considered.

Thanks dudes. Happy punchcarding.

I agree. I've lost count of the number of times I've brought this up in various discussions on moderation in different speedrunning communities, but in my opinion a moderator is much more than just someone who verifies runs on a leaderboard; they're a representative of their community, and an ambassador for that community to the speedrunning community at large. If someone is doing no part in representing/contributing to their game, then they just don't have much part in being actively considered a moderator for that game.

This isn't a question of showing disrespect to older moderators by removing them after a long time; this sort of issue is not meant to belittle someone's past work or suggest that they've outlived their 'usefulness', it's just a simple matter of fact that moderation is a responsibility that must be treated with a certain degree of respect and commitment. If you can't give that, stepping down and handing the mantle over to someone who is more driven is often the right thing to do.

With that said, I'm still happy to put myself forward as a candidate if any replacements turn out to be necessary. I haven't been actively running the game very much lately, but I still very much like hanging around the community and helping promote the game, and have the best interests of this game at heart. As far as experience goes, I've been running this game longer than some of the currently active moderators, so that may count for something?
