Is there a way to follow a single category of a game?

Current notification settings only differentiate between IL runs and full game runs but it would be useful to be able to follow (or set notifications to) just one category (or multiple) in a game.

The popup video ads in the bottom right are very annoying, especially because they autoplay a video everytime you open a new page. I use adblock, but whenever I'm on a different device or incognito, this can get very frustrating. Besides, adblock defeats the point of having ads on here, I'd love to support the site, the banner ads are fine, but its self defeating when to use the site I need to turn on adblock. There's a reason the site ran on donations before. I know this is not an uncommon opinion.

The "Help / Contact" page (https://www.speedrun.com/help) links to the main "The Site" Forum page for Feature Requests and Bugs. That should probably be changed to https://www.speedrun.com/the_site/thread/g79jt and https://www.speedrun.com/the_site/thread/onfz6 respectively.

Hello,

I had a problem with a runner lately because he didn't see I updated the rules for a game since I add to split a leaderboard, since he didn't respect the new rules I had to reject the run.

Since we have notifications for forum posts and guide update, could it be possible to add this notification (for the rules being updated)?

I think it's best if it was made so Mods can't just upload another user's run to their leaderboard without their consent. It is up to the runners themselves to choose to submit or not. The same goes for runners wishing to leave a community and remove their runs from the boards, those runs shouldn't be resubmitted afterwards.

I have had to deal with moderators adding my runs to their boards a few times now. Sure it's a legitimate run, but I had my reasons for not submitting it. I'd prefer that to be respected.

Just like mods have to accept and confirm a run's validity, if a mod tries to submit another runner's run for them, the runner should have the agency to decide if they want that to happen. Reaching out to a runner isn't all that difficult either, to just ask if it's ok to upload, then the runner can ok that upload when they see it.

@BOWIEtheHERO game moderation rules say that moderators can upload runs by others, but never against their consent. If moderators abuse that option and add your runs after you stated you don't want that, you can contact any site moderator about that.

i was told to xpost from a thread i made.

I was trying to find a game I played a long time ago. I knew it was PSP, so I went under Games and selected PSP for platform. First off, wasn't there at one time a way to additionally filter by game tags, like platformer, rpg, etc.? Maybe it's somewhere else. If not, can this be brought back? Anyways, the original reason for writing is that since it wasn't in the first 50 shown, I had to keep going, but doing so just made the site take progressively longer to load the additional entries before it just completely stopped responding or even trying to load. If it was organized by pages instead of one ever expanding page, this wouldn't happen. Can this be changed?

@zMienai that's just a custom variable. If there's a specific game you think should add it then you should ask that game's moderators.

Could there be an option for ranking runs based on some secondary variable(s) first, and time second? I think this could be useful in some situations. One example could be Low% runs, where you could rank them based on the number of completed objectives first and then the actual time second. That way you could keep one and the same leaderboard for new and old Low% runs, rather than having to create new leaderboards every time a more minimal route is discovered which would make old runs obsolete.

It could also allow for more alternative timing methods, such as for games with an in-game timing method that doesn't follow hours, minutes and seconds necessarily.

Turns out I posted this where I wasn't supposed to. Oops. Well anyway here it is.

There are multiple subcategories on a board I moderate and I want to add a certain variable to only a few of them, but that doesn't seem to be possible without adding that variable to all of the subcategories, which I was wanting to avoid. I think it would be nice if there were a solution to this.

It would be nice if there was a Statistics page for series that shows how many games are in it, total players, total runs, total mods ect.

It would be nice if I could have a way to hide certain games from my speedrun page, or at least behind a "show hidden" checkbox. My profile is cluttered with games like Seterra on both my IL and full game boards and I'd really like those games to take a backseat to something like Portal which I'm much more proud of.

Also, I know this has been mentioned before, but the Full Game page is listed in chronological descending (i think) order while IL is the opposite for some reason.

Variables that apply to only one category still appear as a filter option for all categories, cluttering the filter menu. (There are 2 variables in the included screenshot that don't apply, but our plan was to have 7, which we're now probably going to abandon.) We wouldn't have even run into this problem if we could apply a single variable to multiple (but not all) categories, as suggested here and here. https://i.imgur.com/oEqzfy4.png

You can assign variables to specific categories, but would it be possible to also assign variables to specific subcategories, so basically assign variables to other variables that are being used as subcategories?

@Xarxos I think we have the same idea... I want to assign some variables to specific subcategories, not just the top row of categories.

Example pictures: https://ibb.co/2Y7ZJ4T https://ibb.co/fMF7y9S

I want to be able to have this leaderboard so that a difficulty variable (Professional/ Master/ Casual) is applied as a subcategory to the SASO subcategory, but only as a variable to the any% subcategory. Sadly this seems impossible with current UI.

https://ibb.co/9pZwyVq

As you can see, if I am trying to assign a variable to a specific subcategory, I can only do so with the top row of full game categories (map categories of S1, S2 etc). I cannot assign a variable to "SASO" or "any%" specifically.

And I'd rather not put SASO/ any% on the top row of categories, because it makes the rest of the board messier. Hope I explained my problem well and devs will look into it.
