"Gun Not Showing"

So I posted a speedrun of Last Man on Earth of Dead Center the other day because I was bored. Originally, it was approved, then it was taken off because my "gun was not showing" which is a simple console command of cl_viewmodelfovsurvivor 500 (or other values that do the same thing). Sorry if this is officially stated in the rules of speedrunning this game or something, but why the hell is this not allowed? You can use an early version of the game with more exploits, you can bhop script, you can use any advantageous thing under the sun, but you can't change your fov? I simply don't understand it; can someone explain it to me? Thanks.

Literally makes no sense if you think about it. It is just hiding the gun model, which is not modifying anything illegal in the console commands. In my run I had viewmodel set to 180 which hides it and then I just toggled it back and forth.

I don't necessarily speak for the person who took your run down, nor do I know who did, but I can understand why they did. We're trying to keep the game as vanilla as possible, but changing the viewmodel slightly is usually deemed okay, as it's just a personal preference and doesn't really impact gameplay that much. However, removing the gun entirely seems a bit unfair, as it frees up the entire screen. You can't do this on console, and it overall just looks bizarre, so I completely understand why it would be rejected for continuity among the community. This doesn't necessarily mean I agree with the video being taken down, though. It is a rather minuscule thing to take a run down for. From the 3 seconds I could load of your video before my router caught on fire trying to load it, it doesn't seem to impact gameplay all that much, especially since It's only a LMoE run.

That's stupid. There is no rule against using the viewmodel fov command. And rightfully so.

Whether or not changing view model FOV gives you an advantage is arguable, there are benefits and negatives of different FOVs, compare no FOV to a far FOV, or an upside down FOV, all have different pros and cons. The one thing you can objectively say though is that it DOES NOT make you any faster, at all, in any way. I have runs with different FOV, no reason for this run to be taken down lol.

@Canterlott - I feel like the argument of trying to keep the game as vanilla as possible is hard to standby when you can bhop script. That's infinitely more of an unfair advantage than changing your fov lol.
