Restructuring Board

After a bit of careful consideration I've decided to try to restructure the board to make Console and Arcade separate, unfortunately SRC doesn't allow sub categories to be a different amount of players so I'm leaving that bit as is.

I also want to make the timing rules more clear as some runs have been submitted with a time not reflected by these rules, so that comparisons between different runs aren't accurate. Because of this some runs will be retimed.

I want to be clear that I do not have a strong familiarization with the arcade version so my decision for the timing may not be the greatest, please let me know if you think there's a better option.

Good call, always good to have everything clearly stated.

I have 0 idea about anything arcade emulator related, not sure what I'll be able to learn.

I'm no expert on Arcade, I looked into it once though. You could reach out to Tenka whom moderates various Mortal Kombat titles, he runs arcade all the time and have a good idea on how that all works.

Edit: Also I believe it should say 1.52 rather than 1.43 on snes9x rules

I took those straight from SRL, which is what I'm used to being the case for other SNES games I've run, but I do like the way they have it laid out better.

Figured I'd chime in because Xen brought it up to me:

In regards to the Arcade version, your best bet is MAME. It looks like MAME revisions prior to revision 0.233 have a very minor graphical error - you can see the report here: https://mametesters.org/view.php?id=8040&nbn=2#bugnotes

Personally I wouldn't really see that as an issue and you should be more or less safe to allow any version of MAME as far as emulation goes, but if you want to be really thorough with the above issue you could ask that runners only submit MAME 0.233 or higher.

Other than that, you should be good. Just be sure to put in separate timing rules for the Arcade version. If the board ever becomes highly optimized or you have doubts about the legitimacy of a run, you could ask that runners use a special version of MAME called WolfMAME which employs anti-cheat methods such as blocking save state and debug cheat usages.

WolfMAME is a little complex to use though so I wouldnt recommend requiring it unless you absolutely have to, over at MK we ask that runners use WolfMAME only when they reach a certain skill threshold (if they get below a certain competetive time). I dont think you need to worry about that right now though since the board is so small.

TLDR, ask runners to use MAME, add timing rules specific for arcade

My 2 cents, hmu if u have any questions.

ya in regards of SRL here also, they still accept VBA for GBA emultion, which is super banned and has been for a while when it comes to actual speedrunning. mGBA is much, much better.

SRL generally have not been updated at all since I started speedrunning in 2017, I would not trust that site at all.
