How to efficiently practice FF7 any% no slots speedruns on the PC

There must be some kind of mod that lets you rewind time or something like that , because just loading save files every time you're done with that certain segment / messed that segment up doesn't seem very viable. Is there some sort of a tool that's supposed to make practicing more efficient? thanks in advance

Black Chocobo is a good tool for creating and editing save files, which will help with practicing boss fights. If you want to practice step route, the best bet is probably to use cheat engine, and alter the addresses when you load a save so that it simulates where and what encounters you should get.

Another option for step count is to use an emulator and its save state feature, it'll be more difficult to keep steps compared to PC, and some of the setups for preemptive fights are slightly different but if you can keep good movement on emulator then PC will be a breeze. Emulator is also good for practicing menus even though they do feel slightly different.

If i'm not gonna do step count , will the black chocobo tool be enough? and if I will decide to learn step count at some point , which cheat engine / emulator do you recommend?

I've tried black chocobo , and while it does work , it's quite clunky and inefficient in time (since you have to reload the save every time). I've then used epsxe , and it was pretty bad aswell (only 10 save states without being able to import). I'm currently looking for a good emulator , like the one that is used here: the emulator looks good , but I can't figure out it's name (I think calebhart42 uses it aswell but i'm not sure). can anyone recommend good emulators where I can import save states and save them as a file like was shown in the video?

psxfin is the best for save states, aka psX 1.13

It has 5 designated quicksave slots, but also allows you to load savestates directly from a folder really easily so you can organise them in folders however you like rather than trying to memorise which save slot is which or transferring folders into the specific save location of the emulator. That is the emulator Dave uses in his video btw.
