A skip in 1-1 was discovered recently, which involves having the King Bob-omb release his star as soon as the player reaches the top of the hill, skipping having to wait for him to explode.
According to runner ProG64, the player needs to be near the wall in the teleporter on the hill. But that's not why the glitch occurs.
As the game's programmer, I should first explain how I programmed King Bob-omb. Ross had originally programmed movement codes for the Bob-omb, which I directly edited into the code for King Bob-omb; but since I used the base code for Bob-omb, King Bob-omb somehow carries the same ID of a specific Bob-omb elsewhere in the level, which happens to be at the foot of the stone hill. King Bob-omb is loaded as soon as the level starts, and if this Bob-omb's explosion is not despawned, King Bob-omb will be told to explode as well. The item an enemy releases after death is determined by a variable, and in this case, King Bob-omb releases the star. If this worked like ProG64 had described, then there would be no star at all because if King Bob-omb is despawned, there's no code that tells the game to add the star.
So the basic execution of this glitch is to get both Bob-ombs before the slope climbing to explode. It should be the one closest to the hill but they move around randomly and you don't always know where the one you want is. Walls don't matter at all.
I might fix this glitch if I update the game. The categories might be changed if I do.

Yeah, it's the Bomb Omb, if you trigger the Bomb and go up the Hill, the glitch will always happen.
