Couple questions about speedrunning RE2

Hello. I am new here.

I've been speedrunning RE2 for a long time, and I think that I should start submitting my runs for it. However, I'm pretty new to the speedrunning community, so I just have a couple of questions regarding it.

I know there is an autosplit script, but as far as I understand, it only works for the PC version, correct? If so, this is not an option for me at the moment. So I would need to know when the game timer starts and ends so my split timer is as close as possible to it.

Another question is that I'll be using an Emu and on the rules it says PsxFin 1.13 is recommended. Is this purely a recommendation, or am I only allowed to use it? And why is it recommended?

If you don't mind me asking, why do you say "autosplit is not an option for you at the moment"? Just set it up and you're good to go, right? As Laguna said, it is mandatory for PC.

Yeah the autoscript is mandatory for PC runs but then the OP said they’re going to be running on emulator. If you were interested, there are autosplits for the Gamecube version on Dolphin emu, and the GC version’s better than PS imo, but that’s personal preference.

Splits aren’t really necessary anyway on console/emu since we use the in game time that pops up at the end, and real time splits won’t completely accurately track this like the autoscript does for PC runs. But generally the timer starts as soon as you’re able to control your character and ends at the final cutscene when the fmv kicks in. You can always check out other runs on the board and see where their timers start/end.

Not sure why PSXfin’s the recommended emulator, a mod would have to answer that one.

Oh yea oops, got mixed up lol. When I said autosplit I was just meaning having all splits shown for PC. Thanks for the clarification ???

No. I'm saying the PC version is not an option for me. I do not own it nor can I get it.

Yeah splits are never necessary, it's the in game timer script (and only for the PC version) that's necessary. So you could just use the SRT with no splits if you wanted to. Pretty much do what you like with your splits for console/emu but you can get an idea for where the timer starts/ends by seeing where it does on PC.

If you're in the RE discord then somebody can help you acquire the PC version? Unless you don't want to do that or can't get it to work on your PC, running emu's just fine if that's what you wanna do.

You plan to run emu, so I assume that means you own a pc, any particular reason keeping you from dl'ing the Sourcenext version? As stated above, it can be found through the Discord (and also here at SR.com I think, in the Resources tab maybe). Someone will be more than happy to help you install it I'm sure ??

I definitely prefer to use a live splitter, its really handy for testing if running around a zombie a certain way is faster or not etc. As for emu versions id definitely go with the GC version, it lets you use a live splitter and also lets you skip cutscenes. Skipping cutscenes to me is the best thing as we have all seen them a thousand times now lol
