There was a silent update to the site a few days ago - all forum posts are now limited by 1000 characters (which is not a lot by any means). I guess that old posts that have more than 1000 characters, can't be updated because of it.

Also, you can't cheat your way by changing the "maxlength=1000" property of the textbox; they have server-side validation for it.

1000 is far too little, that will probably break dozens to hundreds of sticky posts here in the forum and across all game forums. For reference, this following post will contain exactly the allowed amount of characters:

The character limit will be raised. Don't know by how much or when, but it will be raised.

But like, when? This is actually a quite severe change that heavily affects everyone

That sucks, does that mean I can't update that thread anymore? People have made more suggestions.

At some point, the thread derailed so hard and people started spamming scrolls of text.

But even if the update was supposed to stop this behaviour, limiting us at 1000 is too much.

Hear me out What if you would have moderators who can moderate? Funnily enough, in the games forums you can actually lock threads and moderate (unlike here)

Liv, the thing is, this would require active forum moderation. Something we dont have at this time. Something we should have tho.

What's going on in that thread is basically an active rebellion with the end goal of having the mods lock the thread. People have been calling for it for quite a while now, and still are, but that would take active forum moderation. No real discussion was ever going to go on in that thread past the first page anyhow, let's be honest.

The giant wall of text spamming was short lived, and while it caused this, at least it got a security flaw to get fixed. War and Peace is approximately 3.5 MB, and you could post longer than that. Get a botnet or dedicated group of trolls, and it's basically an attack waiting to happen.

Dropping such a low limit on the entire forums is either a result of it being a punishment unfairly doled out, or was a fix done without a lot of foresight- 1000's way too low and is just going to cause multi-posting as @Liv points out. If it was some sort of punishment, then they really should've just thrown a warning our way.

Having to post a second time, just so I can say that I'm not trying to excuse what was going on in the thread, or that we had the best intentions. A decent bit of it is just people trolling the MC forums.

Not gonna deny that it's kinda funny tho
