Winning the game?

Nowhere in the rules does it discuss having to win the game but I noticed in a couple runs and the most recent run people trying to score. We don't have to win right?

I believe you have to win in order for the run to count, that's what I basically did in my run.

The category is called Single Game Victory, so I think it would be implied that you have to win.

Congrats on your WR!

Oh hmmm interesting point. Guess my Genesis WR will get rejected lol. Back to the grind

It also mentions no rules on if we use computer assistance, difficulty of opponents, nor timer speed options.

Going along with this I think we need rules stating it's a one person record. Like I could get my friend to play as player 2 and it would be much easier. I think the spirit of the competition is that it's 1 player only but technically the rules don't say we "can't"

Then it would be a co-op WR, no?

Right, I'm sort of new to actually participating in speedruns, is it the expectation that all speedruns are solo unless otherwise specified? Like the rules don't need to state it has to be a solo run because it's implied unless a co-op category exists?

Ontario, Canada

Hmm, you do have a point, solo runs would be specified IF running alone. However, since co-op was mentioned for the first time, maybe that would be considered a new category (Miscellaneous), because usually when submitting a run, you would be mentioned just your name, but with 2 people (or more), they would need you to add both you & your friend's names.

I think it's right, although I haven't done a co-op run with someone else either, it would be interesting though.

I would propose the following set as rules we add that the timer must be on normal, that computer assistance either set to enabled or disabled (my vote is for disabled, though this would probably render all runs invalid), and leave the computer difficulty on the default setting - unless we want to add sections per settings.

for example: Fastest Victory Easy Fastest Victory Easy 2 Player Fastest Victory Fastest Victory 2 Player Fastest Victory Hard Fastest Victory Hard 2 Player

and so on... and victory would imply you need to WIN the match, as well as it needing to be deemed 2 player instead of actually specifying solo.

I like that idea, so that would be for both snes & genesis then.

The problem with the timer being set to normal is that all records would have to be deleted since the timer had been on fast

OK, thats fine, then we set it to fast. Just basically looking for what a standard game set of rules is. I'm not really partial one way or another.

I have created a separate category for 2 player co-op. Please let me know if I need to add anything to the rules for it. As far as changing the settings prior to a run (computer assistance, difficulty, timer speed) currently I have left it up to the runner to decide what will get things done the fastest. I feel like it would be cool to add categories for different difficulties. If you all feel that changes need to be made to the current rule set let me know but keep in mind that it may invalidate some runs we have on the leader board currently.

Also, I feel that it may be necessary to create a new/separate leaderboard for the Genesis version. If anyone wants to request that leaderboard feel free to do so. If not I will probably do it sometime this week.

Personally I like having one page with tabs for different systems per category but I'm open to others opinions.

It looks like the site admins agree. The game request for separate versions was declined. We will stick with the different tabs for each system.
