Looking for help with Beta testing a speedrunner-Bird of Light

Hi folks!

So we are Roach Interactive, and our new game, Bird of Light, is going to be up on Steam very soon. This game has a pretty strong speedrunning mechanic, we think :)

Here is the trailer:

The game is a kind of sandbox runner where you can create and recreate game levels to run in different ways. More details here: http://www.roachinteractive.com/bird-of-light-pc-and-mobile.html

We would be thrilled if some of you would be interested in playing the Beta and giving us some feedback.

Thank you!

I don't understand the main goal of your request... Do you want the community to explore the potential of the game as casual or as speedrun gaming ? The feedback you need could be not the one you're expecting with that difference.

Hello and thanks for replying, Yajijy! I'm looking specifically for evaluation as a speedrunner.

You see, Bird of Light is a deceptive-looking game. It looks like a very casual game, but it is actually quite complex and very hard to beat. There are 21 levels and each of them offers three badges, two of which are for speedruns, and there are millisecond leaderboards for each of these badges.

Each level can be played in numerous different ways; that's the core design of the game and it's USP.

Thanks again!

So, as speedrunner's point of view, I got some other questions :

  • Is the game playable with controller pad ? If I look well, that point is not mentioned in the description. I'm not saying I can't play on keyboard and mouse, but I'm more used to controller. And if the game is adapted to be played both ways, it will potentially attract more testers.

  • If we eventually test your game, are we allowed to stream it ? It could help a lot to discuss with another runners, or just to expand its visibility.

Hey Yajijy,

Yes, the game has partial controller support-all action is controller supported and we have spent a lot of time to time to really polish the controls. It is possible to use both controller and keyboard, but personally I prefer the controller too :)

We would love for you or anyone else in the community to stream the game, no problem at all!

Thanks!

Hmm, sounds interesting. Once I get a stronger PC, I'll definitely give this game a shot! :D

@soru-you can use a very basic PC to play. We have no dynamic lighting or anything, and the game is actually optimized for mobile-you will not have a problem, I think.

Hmm, I have a Windows Vista at the moment. So...who knows?? I'll give it a shot.
