Whatup all folks! I sure each game has it’s own rules pertaining to this, but i just want to see the general consensus: is GBi allowed for speedrunning in most scenarios? It’s using nintendo’s hardware, and it’s not emulation, it just looks WAY better and does not require a disk to use. Do most GB, GBC and GBA allow for use with GBi?
all it is is a different interface for the GBP (hence the name), so yes it should be allowed for all GB/GBA games.
I'm from the GB community, and GBi and SGB2 are our hardware standards.
I can't speak for GBA or GBC, but you'll be accepted with GBi on nearly every GB board if not all of them.
Can confirm: GBi (on either the deprecated LL (=low latency) or the more recent speedrun setting) is one of the standards for Game Boy speedrunning. For more information about GB speedrunning you can also visit http://www.gbrunners.com/game-boy-speedrunning-explained .
