My runs have now been sat awaiting verification for over 3 weeks? I think think is unacceptable on such a highly run game!! Is anyone else also in this boat?

By looking at some of the most recent runs posted, it seems like there are only a few moderators who verify runs regularly. This game isn't insanely popular, but putting that aside, all of the few mods who verify runs may be busy with other things at the moment. I think it's important to remember that many people do this as a hobby, and not as a job of some sort. I can imagine that there are definitely days where the choice between verifying a sonic run and catching some extra sleep doesn't even cross their mind because they're already in bed lol. Anyway, I would be patient, if possible. All this time waiting could be used grinding for a new time!

This is true, I submitted my first run to the site a couple weeks ago and have been improving it since. I'm locked in several bitter rivalries with runners who don't yet know I exist.
A couple more verifiers should get added soon, but do remember also that you can post your times and things in the discord and still make them known. Also various people do top level runs of the game and never even submit their times to this leaderboard, so it isn't everything.
A new moderator has been added and I am in the process of hopefully adding another one.
