Want to speedrun, don't want to lose progress

I'm new to speedrunning, and I have to start from a new save if I want to speedrun this game. The problem is, I spent a lot of time getting 106% and don't want to lose all my progress. Anything I can do?

if you can locate your savefile at program files x86>steam>steamapps>common>super meat boy>userdata (or wherever it may be on your pc, mine is there) all you need to do is copy the savegame.dat file and paste it somewhere safe. then you can remove your save from that folder, your game will have no progress and your save is safe for you to paste back in whenever

I copy and pasted the save file back into the savegame.dat file, and now it's all weird. I have negative deaths, the progress and level times are all wrong, I have meat ninja unlocked but not some other characters, and there's huge Meat Boys on the character selection screen that let me play as Potato Boy, Bandage Girl, and Tofu Boy when I select them.

And The Demo is a selectable world.

Pretty crazy stuff.

emm would you be able to explain exactly what you did?

I also forgot to clarify that you need to right click Super Meat Boy in your steam library. Then click Properties and in the first page (General) there should be a Steam Cloud section and you want to make sure "Keep games saves in the Steam Cloud for Super Meat Boy" is unticked

i copied the thing in the savegame.dat file, pasted it somewhere, removed the thing from the savegame.dat file, and when i pasted the thing back in it was all messed up. also i made sure the steam cloud thing was unticked when i did it
