Backgrounds not loading in Chrome

Occasionally, theme backgrounds won't load properly in Chrome 66. The background just turns white, even if the theme's background color isn't white. This happens with both game-specific themes and default themes.

Changing the zoom level, resizing the window, or otherwise updating the layout fixes the issue temporarily. However, this is still annoying, especially on games that are supposed to have dark backgrounds.

This seems to happen when a page isn't tall enough to create a scrollbar. For example (on a 1080p monitor), the background loads correctly here: https://www.speedrun.com/se2/individual_levels but not here: https://www.speedrun.com/se2/full_game

This also only seems to happen to games with static backgrounds. For example, the background loads correctly here: https://www.speedrun.com/cad but not here: https://www.speedrun.com/se2

It's an issue with chrome, google has to fix it, not src or any other website. reddit's css also doesn't load properly in chrome atm, but since they're using scripts after the page finished loading, it makes chrome update it correctly. only thing the speedruncom devs could do would be to add a small script that moves something or updates something to make chrome fix itself.

Current Workaround: resize the window, even 1px change works to make chrome load the image.

Resizing on every page load is not exactly a viable option. You still load into a burning white page. And it's a small one without scrollbar, so you likely won't stay long anyway.

I've now changed a background to a single colour slow scrolling repeated pixel.

It still flashes white at you on page load. X|

Is there a chrome issue tracker entry for this somewhere? I can't find it.

There's a viable option known as not using a shitty browser like Chrome. But for now, if you still want to use Chrome, the workaround HDK posted is the only one; this site can do jack about it since it's not a site issue but a browser issue. I don't know if there's a tracker for it; since I don't think it's public development I doubt there is one, but one never knows.

Wow.

Anyway the tracker is here: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/list?can=2&q=os%3DChrome+background+css

And the issue might be this one: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=591015&q=os%3DChrome%20background%20css&colspec=ID%20Pri%20M%20Stars%20ReleaseBlock%20Component%20Status%20Owner%20Summary%20OS%20Modified

I'm curious why I'm not encountering this anywhere else under what appear to be similar conditions ... (no scripts/late updates)

Anyone know a different site with the exact same issue?

reddit has the same issue, but it loads the content for its css like 5 seconds after page-load so the css refreshes in chrome.

Got a specific sub to observe that?

The r/speedrun background colour is there before anything else loads for me (I never see white, even on a cache reload).

edit: eh, forgot about the scrollbar thing - would need a page without the long sidebar ...

edit: zooming out a certain amount and full screen do the trick, I can get the flashing white background that way
