I own an ps2 with this game and would love to speedrun it and have realised the lack of runs and community with the ps2 version of the speedrun is quite annoying because i want a competitive playing field and it dosnt feel rewarding beating 2 people insted of many like there is on the ps3

and here comes the question: why isnt the ps2 and the ps3 not in the same catagory?

Unfortunately even if you play perfect, the loads/lag/etc. just can't compete with PS3. Plus there are exclusive glitches that are PS2 only, thus needing the separation even more.

Yo welcome Lee Tea. Exclusive glitches on the PS2 version and huge differences in loads means the Playstation 2 version is very different from the HD collection. You wouldn't be able to beat any HD Collection times on the PS2 copy.

There have been many PS2 runs over the years, they just aren't submitted here because they were completed when this leaderboard didn't exist. Most of the active/recent MGS3 runners started after the HD collection came about and have very little knowledge or interest in PS2. Due to hardware differences it makes a lot of sense for platform separation. But if you have interest in PS2 runs, be a leader and submit one. It might spur others to follow you to the same task. Snake Eater in particular is very different than HD and PS2 Subsistence. So lots of interesting strats can be found/showcased, making for an interesting run. Subsistence however plays much like the HD collection but with super slow loads. The PS2 versions DO have a lot of weird glitches being discovered, so that's definitely worth a look.

Pretty much what everyone else said. There's not much that I can add to the discussion; sadly the separation of the categories is an unfortunate necessity. That being said, PS2 absolutely has an identity all its own, featuring some PS2-exclusive skips, as others have mentioned. Numerous MGSR members have interest in running PS2, myself included, and I submitted a (trash) run just a few days ago. Hopefully the category will become more active and you'll have the competition you want.
