Request for time removals

You might wanna say this in the Resident Evil forum and not in the general section ( http://www.speedrun.com/resident_evil/forum )

At least in my opinion, if you want a video or comment taken down, that should be fine. But times are public knowledge and taking them off a leaderboard makes the leaderboard inaccurate. Just because of that, I'm against known times being not added/removed.

United States

There's been a lot of discussion on "public knowledge" and "reporting" in the past.

The rule should be: If the time is not notable (say like top 1-3 runs), it should be removed upon request.

As far as top times, it is a very complex issue. If you do not want it attached to your profile I am fine with that. I'd probably rather anonymize the runs than put in fake names. If you don't want it embedded, we might be able to accommodate that with a site update. It is a bit of an overreach for me to prevent people entirely from objective documentation of a publicly listed notable time. Communities can handle this how they choose for now, and this thought may change eventually.

Couldn't they credit the run to the correct name without matching it?

United States

I think this seems more of an issue with moderation, having series mods isn't always a good idea, especially when they try to enforce their rules on games they don't run or care about.

^^ Was about to let everyone know that their times have been readded without permission as well. Mods please fix this. Posts about it are also being deleted in the re4 forums.

I understand not wanting to be affiliated with RE4 boards, but I don't see why you wouldn't want the times up there anyway.

I don't really understand this at all. Splitting the community seems like a terrible idea, so I would've thought that this issue would be talked out and solved.

Kids these days. >_>;

It looks like the times are down for now. The general lack of agreement even between the moderators (and also the community) seems to be a large problem. I unfortunately won't have time to look at fixing things until this weekend.

Apparently at least one user was being an idiot on the forums doing things that probably warranted being deleted, I don't really have time to go figure out who started what.

It seems that in the case of RE4 it's not that people want their times off of leaderboards, period, but off of the speedrun.com leaderboard specifically. If there already were leaderboards, why was the request put through? (seems to be a semi-common issue, I know it happened with a Crash/Spyro usurp around the inception of the site). If there weren't, then there wasn't really a problem on creation but if the community wants the leaderboards elsewhere, why keep them here? (note: this is from skimming some of the discussion and definitely isn't a fully informed opinion).

One centralized leaderboard > one up to date and one partially updated/filled out > 2 partially updated leaderboards. Speedrun.com doesn't really have ways to remove leaderboards when others exist. The best way around this without destroying information would probably be have the game in the games list, but having it link the community leaderboard.

Kind of a bit of an off-topic ramble, but I think it gets my general concerns across.
we are just tired of the RE mods ruining the RE4 board constantly
I know nothing about RE speedruns but wouldn't giving members of the RE4 community (the ones managing that google docs leaderboards) moderation right over RE4 and untick "Series moderators have power here" be a solution ? Unless RE4 people really don't want to be on speedrun.com and there shouldn't a leaderboard on the site

There should be a way to remove series mods for good. I had the series mods come back even though I uncheked the series mods have power option, but then I believe the bug was patched or fixed... obviously someone with more knowledge on the subject will have to confirm this.

I'm extremely new to resident evil games, but if I may, I'll just throw my opinion on anyway. As the official Resident Evil 4 New Game Easy, Segmented in one segment, RTA, 60/30FPS Ultimate HD World Record holder, I'd like to think that something is going wrong when I can say what I just said and it be true. I can see where carcinogen is coming from in wanting to change the boards to merge categories and all that jazz, because there being around 40 world records for one game goes a bit beyond the meaning of absurd. I also see where he is coming from when he says that a World Record should have video proof. As a new runner, finding which run is the best run, and which is a run I wanted to learn from took a healthy amount of effort (I eventually just watched a few different ones and used JTB's nice guide on Pro (even though I'm not running Pro, but I digress)), and if a world record does not have a video, it definitely does cause a problem for a new runner, and it most certainly does display a bias towards "oldbois". I have no freaking clue why he thinks segmented runs are "guides", that doesn't make any sense to me, but the rest of his points make sense. However, who am I? I'm just some fat nerd on the internet that doesn't really run the game seriously. Same with Carcinogen. Just because you run a game in a series doesn't mean you should be the king of the whole series. Carcinogen may be relevant in RE1-3, but in 4 or 5, I don't think he should be in any position of power. The power position, should obviously, go to the most prolific and serious runners of the game. You should set up the board however you see fit, and shouldn't have to deal with someone whose opinion doesn't matter butting in and changing all the rules. This has happened in the past with my games in the mega man x series. People who run the games on Super Nintendo tried to overhaul all the games on Playstation even though they never played or even like them. It's absolutely ridiculous that it would even be possible for that to happen in the first place. As for removing your times from the speedrun.com board, I understand not wanting to be affiliated with them, trust me, but as Noname as said, the more accurate a board is, the better it is for everyone. Even if the google document is the main board among the active community, the speedrun.com board should at least show most of the runs on there so that if someone wanted to look up the record, they could with some ease, and not have to dig through people's info sections looking for some spreadsheet. This was really long-winded and mostly irrelevant since my opinion doesn't matter at all, but I thought I'd just toss my hat into the ring, since I'd like to be more involved with RE4 and 5 speed running since I really like the games and plan on getting good. Have a nice day, buds!

IMO, if moderators are incapable of modding their game on this website, they should be unmodded and their task handed over to people who are capable. But a google doc works fine too
