We don't require proof of your times, but we may request it if we think it's necessary.

Video proof is encouraged because it's a great way for everyone to get better at the game. As long as we can see the full race and completion time clearly, any way you can record your screen is fine.

Photo proof should be of the record screen, ideally showing which vehicle you used, along with your speedrun.com username included in the photo.

We've decided to ban emulators from now on. Previously we were under the impression that default emulation was comparable to the real cartridge, ie you had to go to some length to get a faster framerate etc.

But we received a submission the other day that destroyed a PAL record, so I did some testing. Within a few attempts i'd beaten the PAL submission (with a few crashes as well)... using a default SNES9x setup. And then I beat it on NTSC too, which is just impossible on a real cart.

Sorry to emulation fans but the game is pretty cheap to pick up so we hope you'll continue on real hardware!

What a stupid ruling. Just separate emulation from consoles runs. It's not hard, it takes no time at all, especially since you don't have to transfer runs over.

Additionally you don't require video proof on your console only leaderboard. What sense does that make? You're going to tell potential runners "sorry, but just go buy the game, console, controller, cables, TV, etc lmao" but an SD cap card is too expensive I guess? It's about as backwards as it can possibly be and it should be changed to open up the leaderboard.

Hey, @Komrade. I've brought this up with the other moderators. Personally, I'm fine with adding a board for emulator, on the condition that we first need to determine which emulators run the game accurately enough to be competitive. I've personally had success emulating the game using Higan Snes, but I'm not entirely up to date on the state of SNES emulation.

I'm also generally in favor of moving to video proof required when possible, and I think that would make sense here as well.

Waiting to hear what the other mods have to say, but wanted to let you know I've seen your message and we're working on it. Thank you!

Hopefully I didn't come off too much like a dick, it just didn't make sense to me. Thanks for being cool about it.

Tentatively planning on allowing emulator on a separate board, but I still don't trust SNES9x for this game. Would like to keep it limited to bsnes and higan. If someone really wants to use SNES9x, it will be on them to prove that the emulator does not grant an advantage.

Also OK with requiring video moving forward. I've discussed this with @the_androgyne, just waiting to hear back from @Olympus72.

Made some changes. Emulator is now allowed but hidden by default, video is required. Rules have been updated for all categories to reflect the allowed emulators and submission conditions. Still haven't heard back from Olympus, but I think he'll be fine with it. Thanks everyone!

Is the Nintendo switch SNES emulator allowed?

The SNES - Nintendo Switch Online version of the game will be added as an official release as soon as testing has been done to determine timer and performance parity (or lack thereof). This is just to determine if it needs its own board or if it can be integrated. It is technically an emulator, but it will not need to be marked as such once the platform has been added.

I put a video showing the timer in the Discord.
