The goal is to get to the max amount of coins and buy the skeleton outfit timer starts when you start a new save file and press start it ends when you press the button to change into the cotume.
Rules:
- luigi's balloon world is banned
- assist mode, and amiibos are banned
- 2 player will be allowed
- must have finished the game in that file
- Buying moons is allowed
I do not have time to do a run but if others could and post it in the comments it would be appriciated
it would take a bit to get 9999 coins. like maybe 1 or 2 hours playing different areas or the same area over and over again to grind coins unless I am not seeing something?

I was thinking you would maybe beat the game and grind a certain area in bowser since it is pretty fast and again you have to unlock the costume after getting to a certain area in the game or am i wrong?
you have to beat the game and have a certain amount of moons for the costume and then on top of that need coins
You need 560 moons to unlock the skeleton outfit. So, in this category, one would collect the fastest 560 moons, collecting coins along the way to buy moons, and then coin grind in the cascade dino sub area until 9999 coins (about 30 minutes as 24hourrunz said). IT seems like darker dupes with 60 more moons and more coin grinding. I'm not saying it's a bad category idea, but if you have a category idea that you think would be fun, then you should do a run of it yourself first. If you do not have time to do a run, then maybe think deeply about what this category would offer that is not offered by other categories (similar route to darker side/darker dupes and similar coin grinding to 100%) before posting it to (both of) the forums.
Also why is 2 player mode allowed while assist mode and amiibo are banned? 2 player mode is banned for most categories, and it's not specifically needed for this category.
Collecting 560 moons doesn't seem to be a requirement for the skeleton outfit, only for the metal suit... but if you did need 560 moons, then the category would likely not coin grind for duplicate moons, resulting in 560 unique moons collected...
One question to ask is what makes this category more interesting a category of just 9999 coins (which has been run by Stravos before and is good practice for a massive and harder-to-grasp 100% timesave). Bone% would beat the game and get some extra coins from hint arts here and there, but mostly be pretty similar to Any% after exiting the Dino room

Now if you were desperate for categories between Darker Side and 100%, you could run and submit All Hats as a 540 moon category. Probably without duplicate moons, and the category would care more about coins and purples than Darker Side does, while also beating both the Dark and the Darker Side. In contrast to All Outfits, this category would not include any repetitive coin grinding. I had that idea back in 2017 iirc
