Creating a new variable for a game

Hi,

If I create a new variable for a game, one applying to all categories, and set a default value for that variable, will that value apply to all previously-submitted runs?

I ask because I may be setting a new set of sub-categories for a game, and nearly every single run currently in the category, will belong in the same sub-category. I'd like to apply that variable default to every run, except a few I'll manually fix.

Right now the community is still discussing the issue, but this change seems likely.

if you set a new variable as default and apply that to all existing runs then yes they will all get it.

Hi, just tried this and it doesn't work. I created a new variable "Version" in The Legend of Zelda, to apply to all categories. I created three values for it. NES (Default), Famicom, FDS. I then set the variable to be a subcategory.

Instead of applying NES to all runs as a default, it just made all the runs vanish. So I deleted the variable.

How do I apply the default to all runs?

thanks,

Uncheck it as default

Worked perfectly. Thanks so much.

A note on why this "works" - The "Default" setting automatically filters to show ONLY the default setting. If you went to the filter setting and changed it to show all, you would see all the runs.

Yeah I know. That's why I wanted to apply the default variable to all runs, since 99% of the runs on the board (no exaggeration) all have the same variable.

But it won't give you the button to set the default variable unless you uncheck and recheck the default.
