Drifting control stick

i need help. most of the my controller will work fine, but every once in a while mario will just start walking by himself. It has killed about 99% of my runs in the last few days. I have tried calibrating and updating my controllers. nothing works. it happens on both my pairs of joy cons which leads me to believe it may be a switch problem. it dosent just happen on mario odyssey either so it isnt just a game issue. i really dont want to have to send in my switch for repair. does anyone have a solution to this? i am desperate. thanks in advance!

given you appear to be certain this is a hardware issue, bring your controllers that are suspect to a friends house with a different switch to test your theory, if your controllers are still not working then try buying a new controller, failing that then your switch will need maintenance

This also happens to me, but only in my left joy con. Playing 2-D games has become almost impossible, and it is still tough for 3-D games. Any more advice?

Check to see if your switch is still under warranty. If it is, then you don't have to pay a cent. The exact same thing happened to me, and I had to send it in for repair. Trust me, it sucks, it took 4 weeks to get back, but it's the only way to fix it. And it's only the Joycon, so don't worry about testing different switches.

Thanks for the advice. My left joycon’s control stick recently started drifting too (menuing with it is a pain and a half), and I hadn’t thought about the warranty at all.

Call Nintendo(just look up the number) and follow the options until you're on phone support for setting up repairs. The will ask for your model number, and will tell you if you're still under warranty

Well, looks like my right Joycon camera control stick is now drifting, this sucks. I sent it in today, and hopefully I can get it back so I can start grinding. I feel like if I had a Pro controller, it wouldn't break. I still need to get one of those and hopefully a capture card, but I can't right now because I don't make any money.

That's called Stick Drift, and it happens when dust gets in the sensors. Solution? It can easily be fixed by getting a can of Dust-Free Air. It's cheap, only 5 - 15 bucks. How do you get it? By going on Amazon and searching for Dust-Free Air. Or maybe there's one in a store near you. Idk where you live. I would recommend getting the one with the little straw at the end. Just helps aim where the air is.

@Awesomemikey Wow that would've been way better than buying new Joycons

@Awesomikey Where should I aim the nozzle to fix the problem?

@kingKingo123 under the little flap. doesn't work for all though. another thing that helped a little while for me(bought a new pair, same thing happened there(went away after a week though on them)) was to balance the rubber thingy, but beware, its glued on, and its very hard to get it back on...
