First, to begin with, I actually don't have intention to speedrun this game for now (maybe someday but probably just in limbo/pending status like Adventure PSP). But I got something interesting after got the game and try the translation patch (but getting back to clear Japan version, read below)

If you check the fan-translation website, they offering secret passwords that unlocking ¤mainly¤ items. You enter the passwords at Jijimon's house and can be accessed as soon as you talk to him and get first mail...

These passwords surprisingly only works on patched game, if you play the clear Japanese game, the password won't work.. And from now let's talk the clear Japan version since the rule for speedrun is obvious...You need to enter different passwords that listed on Japanese wiki (someone translate that, just google it). It's surprising since seems that only people who discussed that 3 years ago and likely Japanese people actually tried these passwords, only one person in youtube I found sharing it (and basically just spoil the DV items, instead other things)..

Now it's likely doesn't matter for NG+, but for pure new game unlocking some items can be a big deal. You can got all kinds of Stat Chips, You can get certain DV items, and half of items listed that not effective or useless can simply sold for bits/money (+shop already opened even in 0 PP)

The main topic and the real question is how to determine the rules for that, in term of speedrun? It's simply banned, get restrictions, allowed, or any other decisions? Well, I don't have specific propose for that, I want to know how to deal with the password madness after fan-translations done and they spoil you passwords mechanic in the game.. Simply just give reasons for decisions made by Sparsie mainly XD... I just state my own opinion for that...

Reasons for it's allowed:

• It's one-time only deal, I tested for full Offense boosting and the starter Agumon still only get 400 Offense with Devil Chip+Off. Chip unlocked and whoever Agumon DV to, you still need to learn better techs
• Only player who crazy enough to enter all 30+ passwords in speedrun XD
• It's simply to decrease the training process for DV and for quick money

Reasons for it's not allowed/restricted:

• No cost or side effects to do so (think about password in Yugioh FM but instead no starchips needed)
• Not sure if instant DV to Mega level (or instant DV in general) actually allowed for pure new game
• The Colosseum partner key items might be broken (wut, Examon?)

This discussion was already had amongst the moderator team months ago, but it's good to have this explicit on the forums.

The reason why the fan translation password only works on the patched game is because the passwords are also in a sense "translated". The characters that represent a hex value is just changed between the two versions, thus the passwords would of course not work between the two different versions.

The advantage of NG+ is that you can start off with items that you obtained by using passwords. Everything you collect is carried over to your next playthrough. Using items in a New Game would essentially just be a slightly slower version of NG+ where you don't have to input the passwords during the actual speedrun segment. Thus, there would be no point.
