Flying Battery 1

Been banging my head against this level for hours now. I just can't seem to work around the cycles on the flamethrowers and magnets. I try to spindash off the first platform at the beginning and I ALWAYS get hit by the flamethrower, no matter how many times I tap or which angle I dash from. Also the magnets after the second and third corkscrews seem really inconsistent. Tried following that one route using the fire shield but I just can't work around this. At all. I got a 1:39 and can't go lower than that.

This is the video of my PB. Not gonna bother submitting it because it's really not that good. My execution in general is lacking.

Thoughts?

Tell me about it. I wish Sonic didn't HANG so much. Seriously. If he wants to go play hang man he could do that by himself. If he wants to call his buddies so he could just HANG UP on them, he could do that by himself.

But let go off the damn hangers in dim witted hedgehog.

Take a look at Werster's run here at the very beginning: http://www.speedrun.com/run/zgng4g0y

It looks like he's walking to the left for a certain number of frames to manipulate the timing of the cycles and miss that flamethrower. Other than that, it looks like you just have some mechanical issues that will work themselves out with continued practice. Keep it up and you'll do great!

Yeah, I remember seeing that and wondered if that was relevant to the run at all. I was under the impression that the cycles only began the moment the timer started, but that's something to keep in mind for all of my future runs. Other than that, it's as you said, just practice. That's how I eventually got my 1:56 at LR1 anyway. :)

Nice!

I did see that Claris confirmed in the Discord chat that you can wait in Time Attack before passing the starting post to get a more favorable cycle, so that's definitely what Werster was doing at the beginning of his run. Good to know for future attempts!

Meanwhile, I'm still working on getting my GHZ1 under 30 seconds I'm kind of in the same boat with it just being a matter of improving mechanics and consistency now

Oooh man, sub 30 is so hard in GH1. Really makes you appreciate the people who manage to get it. I managed to shave off a little bit of my PB today, but that's about it. At least I also got a great time on Lava Reef 1.
