Shy Guy Falls No Mushroom Shortcut

Ok, so in every run I've seen that involves Shy Guy Falls, they do the shortcut that normally requires a mushroom towards the end of a lap, without a mushroom. I have tried so many times to do this but can't pull it off. I can get an smt but I can't tell what I'm doing wrong. Does anyone know how to pull this off?

Sorry if this is not specific enough, but I'm fairly new to speedrunning this game.

Do you have a video of yourself doing it? It would be easier to figure out where you are going wrong.

I also recommend asking this in the mk8dx speedrun discord

Make sure to jump right before the grass and also trick. Also what cc are you on?

I am doing this on 150cc, and how close do I need to be to the grass because I'm getting insanely close to it and jumping but I always slow down before hitting the ramp

Also I am getting a capture card soon so I'll have video soon

Also Idk how to reply directly to comments on here so I'm gonna just put this as a normal reply and hope you guys see it lol

There are a couple methods of doing that cut on 150cc. In the fastest/hardest/riskiest method, you release an MT before the grass and hop over the entire grass patch. Proper timing for both releasing the MT and hopping is required. This is what I do in the 150 NI Flower cup WR, but I wouldn’t normally go for this. The easiest method is to take the bottom path when approaching, drift right early, drift onto the grass, and release an SMT as you land onto the grass. You can see this in K4I’s 150 48 tracks no items run. An alternative, more consistent method that’s still quite fast is to take the top path, then drift onto the grass for quite a long time and release the MT late. The specific spot you drive over the grass to keep your drift for so long is quite precise. Copy what Kusaan does in his 150 48 Items WR.

A 4th, completely viable option is to just go around. If you commonly make driving mistakes on other parts of SGF, it’s probably worth it to ignore the NISC for now. Focus on learning other parts of the track well.

I realize this thread is a month old and you probably got it sorted out now, but just in case...

In my experience, it's not just about the timing for the hop and the MT, but also the angle at which you approach the NISC. I put together a really quick and dirty of the setup that I use, and it's enabled me to get it around 80 to 90% of the time
