Looking for my first game to run!

Heya everyone. I've been real interested in speedrunning for a few years, and wanted to finally try my hand at it. I'm willing to give almost any game a shot, but here's some quick preferences (in order of importance to me):

  • few/easy glitches or skips
  • less than an hour for a full run
  • minor/no rng dependence

If you guys could help me at all it would be much appreciated! If there's anything else you guys would like to know to help me out with this please let me know. <3

What kind of games do you like? It's best to start with those.

If you want something nice and short, easy to get into, I noticed this game was created recently: https://www.speedrun.com/Rotate

Well, I know Super Mario Bros. for NES has like no RNG so that an option. For a short game (that I love) that has RNG and performance involved, Kirby's Dream Land is an option. A run while learning is less than 15 minutes.

Hue warpless any% excludes the death warp glitch, which is the most tricky part to the full any% run. There are still a few exploits in the warpless run, but the strats are pretty learnable. I currently have WR at 55:59 and it's probably not gonna go below 55 ever, so it may be a touch on the long side for your liking. I recently did a tutorial video for Hue.

If you think it's a game you might want to run, I have some Steam keys for it, too.

I suggest you to play a NES or Game Boy game, since the games for those consoles are usually very short, you could also try some SNES games.

ABZU is a game that's around 35-45 minutes long, one easy glitch and no rng dependence.

Netherlands

I suggest you look in some childhood games you really enjoy. (Like @MarioMaster564 said: Old consoles) Check out the leaderboards and one of the runs.

Snail Bob 2, It's a web game, so it's free, It's 6 minutes long, no rng at all, and it has only a few tricks that are all pretty easy. Best of all, WR is easy since not many people run it.

Splatter its got a little rng, so far only one glitch discovered that plays no part in a run, and a first run can be done in about an hour and a half and that time will drop after that. Plus it can be picked up on steam for 49 cents until july 19th.

If you are still looking for a game, I submitted this one today and it's fairly simple to do it in ~1 hour, it has some RNG tho :) https://www.speedrun.com/sotsamurai

Why not try something simple like Kirby's Dream Land for GB? It can be learned really quickly!

The riddle school series are pretty short flash games that are easy to learn. If you're looking for more of a "real" game, I recommend Super Mario 64. 16 star, specifically, since it's pretty easy to learn.

Scotland

either do I but different people find different things easy so its good advice

Check out Cat Bird! It's on mobile, very easy to learn :) www.speedrun.com/cb#Any

If you've got an Xbox 360 or Xbox One and you like FPS games, you could give Perfect Dark Zero a shot. Any% runs are ~50mins, the skips are all pretty easy, there's only a few actual glitches to perform (one more in the 360 version) which are fairly easy to pick up, and it's very easy to learn overall. plus most of the RNG has either been skipped or is easily manageable.

And the community (well, me and like 2 other people) are super helpful too.

I would say try out Mothlight ( or maybe Orogenesis when it comes out) it's a free rpgish game that I finish in about an hour. Its got great art, there are no random encounters and no farming needed at all just fun characters and music. Though because it's a rpg I would say it's a fantastic streaming game because while the attacks are happening you can look at chat and reply!
