Is there anything in speedrunning that gets on your nerves?

The doggos have terrible timing. They just lay around and sleep all day, but when I set up my laptop and I'm in the zone kicking virtual butt, they suddenly need pets and attentions.

I always get nervous during certain parts of the Shadow of the Colossus speedrun. Certain things that seem routine and easy, but for some reason still make me uneasy about attempting, especially because of the loss of time you can have from them.

I had a Jehovah's Witness on the door at one time while running Harry Potter. And I still have nightmares about it now.

Forgetting to start the timer, forgetting to hit record, forgetting to use the new route I spent days learning, forgetting to either go in my room or tell my family to shut up before I start my run (I have no capture card so outside audio is recorded), forgetting to split, forgetting the split button and hitting reset instead... you get the point

-People who run games with no one running them just to have the "world record" and make a shitty route or barely try. -People who ask for games to run. Use this site, use google, use literally anything to show that you've made an effort unless you have some super specific requirements. -RNG sucks but it baffles me when people complain about it when they're running an RPG. -Finding what would be a skip but being unable to exploit it because of some kind of progression system that renders it impossible to progress through a level without reaching a certain point or doing something. -Cool stuff not being fast stuff.

Essex, England

Closed-minded dickheads who don't understand or accept other people's viewpoints when discussing game and category rules.

I know this isn't necessarily a speedrunning issue, but I seem to see a fair amount of these people dotted around the site. People are generally all against these people, which is nice to see.

@Champloo I’m looking at odyssey painting skips when you said about finding something that would be a skip

"Forgetting to start splits and not noticing until halfway through a run."

This is exactly what annoys me the most.

Something else that annoys me when there you have no privacy or someone is playing loud music or TV. Hopefully moving in a month or so will change that.

Also when my network starts screwing up to a degree so bad, you have to restart the the entire run.

People interrupting me and telling me to do something in the middle of a run. Explaining to them that i can't stop is a bit impossible and then I'm forced to reset.

  1. When people come into the room when I'm streaming and want to have a convo mid run.
  2. Kracko RNG making me cry evrytyme.

Also LUL @Angelaatje I've never heard anyone say training, but that's priceless.

having PC and consoles on the same leaderboard when the tricks can't be done on both. I am poor and own a console, don't make me buy a sup'ed up pc to be relevent!

Tfw you find a game to play, spend some time completing a run, go to submit, emulators banned.

Why would you do a run without doing such basic research?

Esperanto

Welp, it wasn't in the rules, and I don't typically click to submit a mock run specifically to see if I can click that checkbox, especially for SNES. I do realize now though if there is only one platform and the game AND there is only one region AND emulators are banned, than the platform column on a game doesn't appear (since they would all be the same). That's something I can keep my out for in the future, but it doesn't really apply unless those three things are true. So it's not immediately obvious emulators are banned unless you submit a run all the time.

on the emulators thing, the game not stating anywhere about what emulators you can use, so you use an accurate one and then finding out that particular emulator is banned even though it is mentioned nowhere.

I've mostly gotten that taken care of because for, at least, the earlier systems, I already know what is generally considered the best emulator for accuracy.

FCEUX 2.2.3 (NES, FDS) SnesX9 1.53 (SNES) BGB 1.5.4 (Though I have Gambette too for Pokemon games) (GB, GBC) VBA 1.8 (GBA only!) Fusion 3.64 (Genesis, Master System, Game Gear, Sega CD) Stella 3.41 (Atari 2600)

Project64 1.7.0.49 is the best N64 emulator I know of, but it's not always accepted as it only accurately plays certain games.

Haven't really got to newer systems yet though. Since they are pretty much hit or miss, hopefully I will able to avoid issues with that once I get some more hardware.

Making a run killing mistake when your near the end of a run. this happened a couple of times with me running Furi and it actually hurt

Texas, USA

Not sure if anyone has said this before. You're almost done with a speedrun when the power suddenly goes out, completely ruining your run. Never happened to me before, but I'm sure anyone who was speedrunning for hours would be absolutely pissed in the head.
