Do you understand what feedback is @diggitydingdong

This isn't "request a feature and we'll add it asap thread"

Netherlands

Sorry if this is asked before but..

Able to fill in country specific names, (PAL, NTSC, NTSC-J)

Some games have a different name in PAL compared to the NTSC version. I thought for a long time Pokémon Link wasn't on the site yet. Till I found out it was called Pokémon Trozei in the USA.

 • Bully = Canis Canem Edition
 • Contra = Probotector
 • Elebits = Eledees
 • Ratcher & Clank games are changed in Europe
 • Kirby and the Rainbow Curse = Kirby Canvas Curse
 • Super Mario Strikers = Mario Smash Football

And more, those are some examples. It is not super important but it would be nice to be able to search for different names.
Here's a suggestion. I see tons of feedback in this thread but almost none of it is getting done or noticed. Start doing that.
I’m sure the volunteers running this site love to see comments like this. Applications for a programmer are open, go apply for one if you think you can do a better job.

I see the site staff and admins get so much flack on here and in some discords (one comment I saw in a discord said that “they’re glad site staff stopped adding useful features years ago”) and every time I see it it pisses me off. Everyone complains about development moving slow on the site but I don’t see any new volunteers for improving it aside from Volvagia. And he’s done an excellent job stepping up and doing the best he can to fix bugs and add features.

If anyone here who constantly complains about the site staff and the site think they can do better then I encourage them to apply to help and do as much as they can. I obviously don’t know if the programmer application gets a lot of traction, but again, feel free to apply if you can contribute instead of just complaining.

In a few games, there are sets of levels known as episodes, which are often only a part of the full game.

At the moment - when it comes to adding them, they are put the misc slot. They're a grey area between full-game and individual levels. They don't truly fit in either.

So what I propose is an optional Episode category that works similar akin to the individual levels one - having its own boards on the sidebar. Alternatively, it could be named anything, not just Episode. It should be fairly straightforward for moderators to transfer misc category entries to them too.

What is involved in approving (or denying) a game request? Yes, this is sorta~kinda "why is mine taking so long" but.........I mean, why does it take so long? It seems to me like it should take a few minutes, tops. Clearly there must be aspects to the process I'm not aware of, and I'm not allowed to be aware of them, that's fine. But it just doesn't seem like it would require much work. The game either belongs on the site or it doesn't. Are there other steps that need to be taken beyond that one determination? Do you get dozens/hundreds of game requests a day? (Just how many games are out there?) Is that why it ends up taking so long?

I hope this has the appropriate tone. I'm just wondering why this is the case, not complaining about it or any person or persons.

"Feedback" thread, does this not include complaining? Excuse me if I'm seeing things wrong here, but apparently I'm not allowed to criticize anyone or anything this site does without immediately getting bombarded with posts saying that I'm dumb for speaking down upon these wizards that have created the site. Now, it's a great site and all that jazz but I see tons of posts in here with absolutely wonderful ideas yet none of them seem to get recognised or acknowledged, which is disappointing to say the least.

@blueYOSHI Yeah sure, they're real people too, and I understand this... but then why have this thread in the first place? Not like any of it's going to be added anyways.

@vercadia Jeez, you're taking what I said wrong here. Main point was that none(or most) of it was getting acknowledged in the first place. Maybe there's some sort of list he has with all these ideas, in which case fuck I didn't know that my bad

@Timmiluvs It's not like I think I could do a better job. There are plenty of people that can do plenty of things way better than me, but I'm still allowed to give critique and constructively criticize what they do. Maybe my original came off too harsh, in which case sorry about that but otherwise this feels like an over-reaction.

Also, not to step over eggshells again, but this site doesn't really have a sustainable model when it comes to this stuff if it relies entirely on volunteers, does he not get compensation at all for what he does? /shrug inb4 "how about you run a large speedrun leaderboard site with over a hundred thousand members, i think they know what they're doing"

@Liv Again, it's what feedback is for. Were you expecting only nice things to come out of this thread? Jesus.

It's sad that @EmeraldAly has to include "I hope this has the appropriate tone. I'm just wondering why this is the case, not complaining about it or any person or persons." to avoid being shit on completely. It's like you see someone has one thing wrong and suddenly 4 or 5 people go "shut the fuck up dumbass lol". (fwiw i agree with emeraldaly but it doesn't really bother me)

@diggitydingdong Your first post came off really aggressive, that's why all these posts came. And your last post wasn't much better either as it's really just "How about you start listening to feedback instead of doing anything else??" which isn't exactly nice. Again, staff are volunteers and do this entirely in their free-time and by doing so you can't add 10 new features per day because there's just not enough time to do so. Staff is currently working on a site redesign and you can't really work on two things at a time so it takes a while until they can add new features and everything. Coding isn't pressing a button and done, even seemingly small features could take hours of work with bug-testing and everything included, and if you do everything in your free-time these features already take up multiple days. Be patient.

/edit: And not even mentioning that these kind of messages demotivate a lot! If you really want to see new features, stop asking.

Fine. I would continue to argue but it seems that both sides are too stubborn to concede (and ive been on edge lately so it might be me). Let me state it more clearly if you guys aren't able to extract it from my posts.

Can you recognise what people are saying in here? Most of it gets drowned and forgotten regardless of the quality of the idea. I'm not asking for them to be added, just acknowledged (regardless of the wording in previous posts).

This is semantics, but "If you really want to see new features, stop asking." ? Isn't that kind of the pointing of asking.

Applications for joining the team didn't exist a year ago and site development was much slower. I'm glad that @Volvagia has stepped up and I really wish more programmers would join in. Instead of arguing about the lack of programming, how about we come up with a way to incentivize more programmers to join the team? I think a single post by Pac asking for volunteers and outlining experience needed would go a long way. Anyone else have ideas?

I've submitted 30 ideas to this thread. I just counted them up individually (including the idea for personal forum searching lol). After nearly 2 years of doing this, the only idea implemented was fixing a timestamp issue for runs on YouTube. So yeah, it would be nice to have more programmers on the team. Regardless, thanks to everyone who has put in some time to coding this website -- we appreciate your work.

If you scroll back far enough, you'll find the developers do have a sheet with all the ideas that's never been shared publicly, probably because we would annoy them about feature requests all the time. If we do build out our programming team, it would be nice to have something similar to Discord Dream Land so users can decide which features matter: https://tinyurl.com/yd3cefo6

@EmeraldAly Scroll down to "Games added per week" on https://www.speedrun.com/statistics -- they get a lot of requests.

@Treya I've suggested this before: https://www.speedrun.com/The_Site/thread/g79jt/57#7kko1

"Search for games, users, etc..." suggests that the search bar can search for thing under "etc...", but it can't yet. A new user might assume it could possibly search for series, genres, forum posts, or more.

How about changing it to "Search for series, games, users, and marathons" so we know exactly what the functionality is? Easy fix ^ ^

I'd like to share a story of the experience I had requesting a game.

 1. Game is part of a series.
 2. There are no series mods.
 3. I had no idea nor did the requestgame page tell me games that are part of a series must be added through the oh-so-special link on the series page to request a game. This, by the way, just goes to /requestgame?series=foo
 4. Game was rejected and I was asked to request it through the series.

There is no indication of the requirement that it go through series mods, and in this case there are no series mods. So I have to re-request the game. This is poor user experience.

My suggestion is that you add an autocomplete / dropdown / some form input for the parameter that you're currently just shoving onto the query string if you're going to require games that belong in series to be added through the button on the series page (which leads to zero difference in the page the user sees, despite it likely changing the form's output in some way). The button on the series page would allow you to auto-fill this value.

I'm curious as to why it must be done through the series page, but perhaps there's more terrible user-experience for the mod side of the site.

Could you not be a bit less aggressive?

Like you could just say maybe to add a link to the thread.

There is a pattern of miscommunication happening between users and mods of this site and this is my latest example of it.

I'm tiring of the change, so my tone may be more aggressive.

His post didn't come off as aggressive to me.

I'm gonna post this here too.

? Option to disable real time completely from the leaderboards

Quote of the text: "I'm super moderator of Super Skelemania leaderboards. Our community only uses in-game time for the runs and because there's no way to completely disable real time for the submitting the runs etc, I (and other mods) have to manually remove real times every time and inform the runners that it's not necessary to write the real time section.

There's other much bigger games that only uses in-game time (Celeste for example), it has to be real hassle to remove real times every time uninformed runner submits real time too, because they think that you need to fill out everything. :)

Unless I'm missing some setting, I have looked for it many times.

But anyways, I hope this thing would be somewhat higher priority, at least after redesign goes live."

small feature suggestion: Gradient for the background of themes. Only requires a 2nd field and a tiny bit of code, but could make a nice difference. Preferrably with background-size:100% 100%;background-attachment:fixed;

Feature request: for Extra Variables, an option to make the variable "mod-only" (only mods can set/change)

With this, we could turn off Verification Required, and then use a mod-only Status variable to mark the run as Verified (we currently do this for Chrono Trigger, in a roundabout way: https://speedrun.com/post/7q9jc )

Currently, attempting to submit a run to a category with subcategories results in the subcategory fields being filled with the default information, regardless of which subcategory is currently visible. As an example using Bullet Heaven 2: https://www.speedrun.com/bh2

The follow set of categories are the default: https://prnt.sc/kmmt4q The following set of categories are then looked at/set to be visible: https://prnt.sc/kmmsue Hitting "Submit run" populates the submission with the defaults instead of the selected categories: https://prnt.sc/kmmsw5

I noticed this strange behavior when populating the Ape Escape Category Extensions board, of all things- several runs ended up in the wrong category at first, and I've seen a few submissions slip through from the wrong subcategories as well because you would expect to be submitting a run to the currently visible leaderboard, as with non-subcategorized categories.

Russia

not really a feedback, but rather a suggestion: can you block (somehow, idk the specifics) free/fake email generators from passing the registration process? it's not kinda fun to see the talk subforum being polluted by this garbage: http://prntscr.com/kn4mam
