perfect game

never really got the hype over minute/second barriers in games, I mean look at 455 how many people have it now, eventually a few will have 454, but assuming no new frame rules are ever found and saved, a perfect game (tie rta tas) would never be tied.

seem possible?

The idea isn't to match the TAS, its to push human limits. And besides there is something oddly satisfying about seeing that time barrier go down. These types of time barriers are often not simply the top runners pushing their abilities, but a community wide effort to find new strats and optimization. They can also serve as inspiration for mid level runners who might know they don't stand a chance at being the one who break that barrier, but find someone else achieving a time once though impossible to be encouraging in their own improvement. A prime example of this was the quest for Sub 1 Hour in Mario Oddessey. As the top runners got better and better, other people worked harder and harder to find small movement optimizations and other strats as they were so close to reaching a time thought impossible. Low-Mid level speedrunning activity also spiked during this time, resulting in many new pbs.

I get what you're saying about the community aspect, I'm not much of a speedrunner myself, follow a few games loosely, I would consider it but things like new strats just showing up kind of scare me, people can dump years into a game and then something new or easier comes out and someone new does it and beats them and its almost like all their hard work was for nothing.

but aside from dragster, pacman, there are only a few games that are 'done' and can be done 'perfectly' and I think smb1 is one (its 35 years old and the tas's, tas and rta, are pretty rock solid) so that's cool to me.

only person in history to do something kind of thing.

If someone were to ask me why second/minute barrieres are important, i would make the anology with new year's. New years is nothing more than a new day but its still a special day, but than you get 1999 -> 2000. Its extra special. (The new years is a wr and the 1999 -> 2000 is a second / minute barriere)

Yeah, I see how the time barriers are like artificial milestones which is satisfying, in most games the wr holder will be alone in their minute or second time they achieved so that distinguishes them, but smb1 eventually just becomes a gang of guys, wr means less if it's a frame or 2 difference that nobody but the hardcore 'scene' even understands the mechanics that went into it.

453 or something, that would be cool, 1 person probably only would reach that were it ever to become possible.

453 100% possible. I'm sure at least two people could get it

Human best possible isabout 454.3

Even the L+R TAS is only 4:54.032

I think tying rta tas is possible if someone honestly had nothing to do but play smb for 2-5 years, but it would have to be recognized by guiness or whoever as a perfect game of smb for it to be worth it.

^^^respectfully...the “nothing to do but play SMB1 for 2-5 years”...takes away from what these elite tier runners are actually doing. They are pushing the human limits of skill in these games while leading an actual life with school, family, friends, Ect.

It discourages me when I see this narrative as it takes away from the people achieving greatness and also further stereotypes gamers as shut ins so to speak.

453 100% possible

453 100% possible Let me be clear I mean in TAS. 454 is the lowest rta can go with our current knowledge. When we get a new strat that allows TASed 453 it probably won't be viable(corn) in rta unless a different setup is found. And before you say anything, I understand this game has been TASed like heck but if it has been now, after 454 this game will be TASed like... Something stronger than hell... Heaven? I don't know lol. Once that happens, 100% 453 is going to be possible. I'm not likely to say 452 is possible when we get 453, because then we will be at the absolute limate. I don't know why I'm talking about 452 anyway, with 454 not even done yet. Even if 453 is possible it will be .8+. Maybe ~.5 for L+R but I don't know the future is unsure. Y'all probably think I'm crazy, but just optimistic 😳

I don't know how familiar you are with this game, but know that in the past decade only 1 frame of timesave was found for Any% in the turnaround room.

Even though you see that the no L+R TAS is a 4:54.032, which probably makes you think "4:53 is literally right there, just gotta save 2 more frames somewhere", know that people have been scrambling their heads to find ways to save even just 1 more frame for over 10 years now. I personally don't think 4:53 is going to happen any time in the near future, but I'd love to be proven wrong.

No I know that the game is extremely optimized I'm just a crazy punk that's, op... optim.... optimmmm... optimistic?! I don't think with our current knowledge it's possible but it will be. I do agree that it won't happen in the near future. It will probably be at least 2050 before anything is found, but I'm probably wrong about that.

i Think that a ''humanly'' perfect speedrun of super mario bros with the CURRENT knowledge we got, would be a Four minutes and 54 seconds. no miliseconds or whatever just 4.54 it would require basically almost perfect speedrunning throughout an entire run. but i feel like it a possibility in the near future, if we find a way to optimize the game even more than it is, then maybe Four minutes 53 seconds and 58 miliseconds or something like that is probably the best we'd get. i'd love being shown that with our current knowledge a 4,53 is possible to the human being. but oh well.

@TetraSmashBox you probably hit it right on the nail That is probably the limit with our current knowledge. If not, 4:54.16

@Rkool21 you misunderstood me, I know how hard this game is, and I know the top runners obviously have social lives, jobs, school etc, I'm saying, if somebody had nothing going on, and literally play mario for 2-5 years everyday a perfect game can likely be done in that time frame.
