Minor thing, but wouldn't it make sense to have a link to your SRL profile on here, considering how the sites are "partnered" now? Additionally, it would probably make sense to have a link to your Speedrun.com profile on SRL as well.

Here's something completely subjective: I don't like having the badges shown on the leaderboards. The little sword or whatever draws the eye, highlighting certain runs over others for reasons that have nothing to do with the time.

Conversely, I do think it would be neat to have the option to display the runners' flags on the leaderboards.
I do think it would be neat to have the option to display the runners' flags on the leaderboards.
I know this is a tiny detail, but if it's just the flags on not the name of the area, then that raises the question of whether US states should display their respective flags (which barely anybody recognises) or the US flag itself.

mobiusman, I was for normalizing the names as well. It just hasn't been changed yet. Flag option would be cool.

State flags are unrecognizable. If you want to use anything to denote states, use the 2 letter code, but I don't think it's terribly useful at the moment.

Also 2dos, the sites don't really have any sort of official partnership any more than SDA and SRL do. There might be some cross-linking eventually, but we anticipate the management structures will stay separate. SRL Profile showing up on just the profile page would definitely help us in contacting people on IRC though especially until private messages get implemented.

Showing flags would be fun. I know that for some US states and Canadian provinces, people really ¤would¤ want the state or provincial flag shown.

However in most cases the federal flags would be preferred.

It'd be nice if the player could just set location and flag separately. But definitely leave the state and provincial flags as options.

Edit: It occurs to me that's not an uncommon thing, recognizing nationality and current location separately.

I'm all for national flags. I'd even rather have a UK flag than an England one. :)

Not sure if it has been mentioned, but I'd recommend adding "sans-serif" to the CSS font list as not everyone has Tahoma. It's a rare case, but it's always nice to have a fallback.

As far as customizations go, more is not necessarily better I think. Like in my profile I used a gif for the background, I have a scrolling foreground and all that kind of shit. It looks awful but at least it's not something that people will really use.

But when I see this: http://www.speedrun.com/smb , the background is pretty intensive CPU wise for no reason, the scrolling is really annoying. Then you have stuff like this http://www.speedrun.com/Bucky_OHare . I imagine it's a WIP and he's trying to do a Bucky theme but that LB is currently eye cancer.

All in all I think you should maybe want to give a little less freedom for mods to do whatever the fuck they want with game themes :x It's fine to have a related background but it can really be overkill.

@Kirua please dont use eye cancer in a way to discribe something isnt nice to look at. its not a nice way of saying it with something you wouldnt like to have. and most of the people are trying their best to make it look as nice and distinct as possible (there are some exeptions but those are always there).

If anything, there should be an option to disable any custom themes whatsoever. People should be allowed to do whatever they want, if you don't wanna see 'em, disable the custom themes altogether.

"People should be allowed to do whatever they want"

I think you (and trollbear) missed the point. People can do whatever they want in their profiles, but every LB is supposed to have some public utilisation. Having a background that "wrecks" your CPU (i actually saw the meat boy LB because i saw a meat boy player complaining about it) or one that is impossible to read shouldn't necessarily be within the boundaries of what super mods can do.

"most of the people are trying their best to make it look as nice and distinct as possible"

Most people are not qualified web designers. We're not here to discuss if their intentions are good, just if the result should be accepted.

I like the optimization potential, I'm just pointing out that there will be (and there already is) obvious problems with it.

Check the settings page!

We'll have to discuss what to do with moving backgrounds. As for bad colour combinations, it's kinda hard to prevent them without also stopping people from creating good themes. We'll have to see what actions we want to take regarding this but it's not likely to be high-priority. For now just let the person who created the theme know, preferably in a nice manner.

@Kirua, yep, I completely overlooked the part about LBs and thought you were just mad about people's own profiles (today I learned that I suck at reading) - sorry!

So if the result is bad, file a complaint. I don't see the problem. If their intentions are good, then listening to the complaint and fixing it shouldn't be a problem. Otherwise, they're not only unqualified as a web designer, but also incapable of running a leaderboard.

Edit: I just realized filing a complaint is kinda difficult without some sort of messaging system.

It might be a good idea for run pages to say who submitted the run (if not the player).
It might be a good idea for run pages to say who submitted the run (if not the player).
Only mods can submit runs for other players though, so the amount of runs that are not submitted by the player themselves will be very limited apart from initial set-up.

Sure, but I think that it would still be nice to have if it's not difficult to set up.

Another suggestion: quote button on forum posts

United States

I add a comment to any runs I add on behalf of someone else saying I added it. If that was automated it'd be cool, but anyone interested in transparency could do the same today.

How does the "Streams" page work in terms of what game it looks for?

There are games whose names don't map well on Twitch/hitbox.

One example is Castle of Illusion. There are 3 versions of the game, and two game entries on twitch and hitbox (the same two entries). People will use whichever for whatever game.

Shouldn't there be a way to specify the Twitch game name(s) for each game?

It would also be nice to be able to specify the SRL game name. so you could quickly go to the race results for that game.

For some reason the date thing on submit run doesn't default to "today" anymore.

Also, entering times is tedious. I'd much rather type 03:23:44 rather than use three dropdown menus and search for the correct number.
