I would like to start speed running but I don't want to run a game I play casually because I don't want to get sick of it, so I would rather run something I haven't played before. I was hoping to ask the community some suggestions that may fit some of the following things I am looking for:
• A game where the Any% can be done in less than 15 min. I don't want a long game. • A game that isn't already optimized to death, so a game that isn't run a lot comparatively speaking. • A 8- or 16-bit game. • It doesn't need good music and it can be a crappy game. • Best case scenario, something that could be run on Wii U Virtual Console or downloadable through PSN (though I know that may be hard since a lot of those games on there may be popular speedrunning games). • And extra points to anything that has game breaking glitches.
Thank you all in advanced! —GTtopHat
Are you interested in webgames or mobile at all? If so, I moderate some that fit your description.
Crack Down (Sega genesis, WiiVC and pc Megadrive collection). The steam version has a wallglitch that can reduce the run to under 10min. All versions have it, only only the pc version can do it without hardware modification, as it requires U+D+L at the same time.
I watched a review of Crack Down and that is definately consider. Thanks for the suggestion!
Do not confuse it with crackdown, which is a fps. Crack Down is a topdown shootee, placing bombs.
Available on steam for under 3$.
Ones that kinda fit your description, don't have many players, and plenty of room for optimization:

== I'm in the process of trying to optimize this one to death, but I don't think I've quite got it yet. ¤HOWEVER¤ it is totally full of weird / hilarious / potentially useful? glitches. I think the devs just didn't care at all, heh.
