First off I'm pretty excited to run this game soon but im curious on what should be the categories for this game. 100% simple/regular, any % simple/regular and possibly individual boss leaderboards? What's everyone's thoughts?

Also very excited for this as a speed game. For now any% and 100% seems fine. I don't think you can actually beat the game on "simple", since you don't get the contract after beating a boss and therefore can't progress, but haven't tried it out myself, only something I heard somewhere.

Individual leaderboards are obvious as the game actually times how long it took you to beat a boss/level.

I agree with the idea of 100%, any% and IL. Maybe new categories can be added once the game becomes more popular, such as restrictions of weapons or dashless.

Also, good/bad ending ^^

The only way to beat the game is, indeed, collecting all of the soul contracts. So all of the bosses need to be beaten on Regular difficulty. If you can handle that :) I feel like it may be a while before we see runs of this game because of its great difficulty, but I could be wrong.

Also, I think that Any% and 100% timing should be done in a similar manner to the Sonic series, where IL times are added together as one time. However, I forget if Mausoleums rely on this and I haven't played the final boss, so IDK if that fight has a timer. I assume it would but I can't say I know for sure.

I don't think adding IL times works since there is an overmap with movement optimization and going to the store with menu optimization

That's right, I forgot about that, I don't know how when writing that but whatever. In that case, just excluding load times works well

For a new game I think you just start with "any%", "100%" (since it doesn't seem like you need to do the run and guns) and the ILs on the different difficulty levels, then as the community grows, you add more as needed. It's not safe to assume that any% will just be a straight normal difficulty playthru of the levels in a year with potential skips and wrong warps, so eventually you might need "all contracts -- normal"

Yeah, the run and guns aren't required. Just there for extra coins. They aren't affected by difficulty either.

I'd argue for Any%/100% for all three difficulties for right now. Of course, thw rules for Simple would be a bit different since you can't do the casino, but that's no reason not to have them

I can also see an argument for an Individual Level board - one for regular time attack, and another for getting an A+ grade.

Because Simple fights don't unlock contracts and therefore cannot complete the game, they could be used as just a Boss Rush type speedrun, obviously leaving the final boss out.

Yeah, I could somewhat see that. But there are significant differences between the fights on Simple and Regular, so if we're going to do a boss rush, I'd say we should separate it into difficulties as well

Nice to see the official leaderboard up! However, I think the rules for Simple should be adjusted to clarify the objective of the run. At the moment, the rules state timing ends on the final hit on the Devil, which in Simple can't be accessed.

A no hit category would be great, being able to retry when you get hit without the run ending but you must beat everything with all your lives left in the end.

All Bosses?

I'm running All Bosses right now, offline. (don't need to beat all the 'shoot and run' stages).

Do you mean like beating the game without run and gun stages?

Kill All Bosses is the only objective. The run and gun stages are not required, but could be part of the strategy to earn some coins early in the game.

I mean, It's the same definition of other runs like "Dark Souls All Bosses".

I'm playing all day and I'm having a lot of fun, I did it in 1h16min. <1h definitely possible.

There's one tricky thing about all bosses that I like to ask :

When you get to the boss rush on the cassino, an all bosses run would require you to beat all the 9 bosses on the roulette. However, say that you kill 5 bosses and then die. If you kill the other 4 bosses and advance (remembering that since is a roulette, you may have to kill again one of those that you killed before), the run will be considered a legit all bosses, or to do it you'd have to beat all 9 roulette bosses + dice head without dying?
