Alternative strat for Bhogavati skip on console?

Hello guys, I recently started running this game again and wanted to get myself into the All Levels% category with glitches.

Since I am playing the game on console (Xbox 360), some of the Speedtricks, which are used for PC runs, don't work for the console version, thus preventing me to do certain glitches or skips. I was looking for different alternative strats, which do work on console and make certain skips actually possible for that version as well. But one skip which gives me a lot of trouble is the Bhogavati skip and I wondered if you guys could help me with this.

This is the part which is giving me the trouble: First of all, the way you would do it in the PC version is that you would climb up the arm of the giant statue to get out of bounds. From there, I've seen two different methods you can do on PC: Doppie did a crouch drop bug in order to land in the loading zone behind the statue without getting falling damage. Obviously this method does not work for console players, since that technique does not exist on Xbox 360 or PS3. The other method I've seen is from Jared, who lined Lara up in a specific way, so that she could do a backwards roll down and then another backwards jump to land behind the loading zone. I could imagine that this method can work on console, however I struggle to figure out how to line Lara up exactly and what you would actually have to do when falling down, so I could not get this method to work yet.

Another theorie I had was to do a grenade fall cancel all the way down to the loading zone, then again you don't have very much space to do that and the timing would also make the trick very inconsistent.

I would be glad, if somebody could help me out with this. It would be cool to hear how Jared did this glitch exactly or if there is even an easier method for this skip. What would also help me a lot is an explanation how this OOB area works, since it seems to have different layers, invisible walls and a few spots, where you have 1 more frame to do another jump.

Hello,

I think, you are talking about Jarek instead of Jared. Jared is a speedrunner of Classic TR games. ^

It's been a while but I think Jarek was actually doing the same thing as me. He is doing an extra jump in the air but the difference is that he starts from a back roll if I'm right. Your best luck is to find a way to use a grenade fall cancel.

I was working on doing this glitch differently but I stopped for running another game. If I get back to TRU someday and that I find another way to do it, i'll tell you.

Hey Doppie, thanks for your reply!

You were right, I meant Jarek instead of Jared. That was my bad, I'm sorry...

One thing I could find out so far is that although the crouch drop bug does not work for the console versions, you can still fall down from any height by doing a backwards roll, since this allows you to do another roll in midair and thus you would be able to survive it (Similiar as the technique, which is used for PS2 runs). Still, I could not get Jarek's method to work with this, because Lara does not survive after the extra jump you'd have to do.

For now, I guess I'll just try to find a way to use a grenade fall cancel, like you recommended. Glad to hear, that you'll keep me updated if you come back and find another way to do it. If I happen to find a new method, I'll make sure to post it here as well.

It took me quite a while, but I was finally able to find a strat, to do the Bhogavati skip on console:

The method which I used is very similiar to the one which Jarek took. Basically by doing a backwards roll from a ledge, you can drop down any height without taking falling damage. But this drop alone, would not be enough to reach the area under the statue. Fortunately, you can do another jump when doing the drop, since Lara is in her normal standing position while she falls down, so you can do that in order to reach the area. The timing to do the jump is a bit tough, since if you do it too early, you'd still die from falling damage, or if you do it too late, you miss the area where you want to land on. The most consistent way for me is to just pause buffer the fall, ensuring that I won't miss the moment when I have to do the backwards jump.

Nice stuff. Interesting. I might take a look at it ingame.

Speedruns of all categories now must be capped at 120 or lower frames per second, due to a new discovery that presented an unfair advantage to players running worse performing systems. The discovery made it so the higher your frames per second, the faster you could swim in a large body of water. The
