Request for a "No Intro" category on console

Impossible. Runs are timed using IGT, there's no way to set it up accurately and fairly on console since a trainer can't be used to set it up.

There will be a way around it, somehow

This is something we've thought over, but unfortunately, as Silky has said, with runs being timed via IGT and there being no way to manipulate it on console as there's no trainer, makes setting up such a category in a way that's fair to everyone (and even more importantly, accurate) pretty much impossible.

I'm open to suggestions but the only viable way I can think of setting up such a category would be to time the category via RTA, which opens up a whole new net of issues, namely:

  1. This would require console runners to stream their runs via capture card on a PC, in which case playing on said PC is a much simpler solution.
  2. This would make the run vastly more pay to win than it is right now.

Feel free to add if you have ideas.

try to make a save at 5 minutes flat and theres your no intro save i guess CUCKW

You could try what village and 7 do for no intro where you pause the game when gain control of Jill and subtract the IGT from the final time

The only viable way of doing this would be to do what Village & 7 does like Kaori said. Start the run at the 1st typewriter just before you exit the subway, then subtract the starting time from the end time.

It would also be a lot less hassle than Village coz you only pick up like 3 things, but you would have to specifically state how the inventory should look and what you pick up :)

The only problem with the subtract method is that it's not accurate since we can't see tenths. So there might be some instances where someone's time ends up 1 second slower than it actually is. Not a huge margin but it would leave a question mark over tied times or times within a second of each other.

I mean the IGT doesn't show tenths as well unless you're using the AutoSplitter. So I don't think its much of an issue

Stream on console has the timer on top for the RTA but it’s something to see and discuss

Scotland

Tenths not being shown is an issue if we start subtracting from the IGT, since it wouldnt be accurate to use flat numbers. RTA seems like a nightmare for many reasons, load times on the new consoles would make it even more complicated

Argentina

We need to do the same as Re 7 from substracting the time as the only way to make this possible the use of IGT but like Mike said we need to checkout every option before making the right call and for the moment RTA for console is the best option

I’ve played the no intro on pc a couple times. Actually missed the apartment sequences. It got me in the mood. Just my opinion.

@SilkyXtreme IGT is nowhere near as big of an issue as RTA is. It's not been an issue for RE7, so I don't see why it should be an issue for this game either.

nah man rta would make you unable to pause for whatever reason if any bad irl rng happens i think the best option would be all runners need to make a save at 00:05:00(example) and show their igt right at the start of the run so its ez to subtract

Like I said, make it a specific item layout, and just have it at any time so everyone is starting on a level playing field. It does not matter what time you start it at whether it be 5 minutes or 5:20 the time will be taken off either way at the end, with VERY minimal time differences when you take off the end time.

Sorry for a late follow-up response, fellas! Busy with holiday stuff.

The idea of forcing a pause at the beginning of the run seems like it could work, and like Salad said, it doesn't really matter what the time at the typewriter is specifically, but it's key that a pause is forced at the very beginning of the run and would have to be enforced pretty strictly (even going past the item box without pausing would be a reject IMO).

That said I also share the concerns with Silky in that tenths of a second DO matter. Just look at what happened last week with me and Minotaur being tied in No Intro Standard on PC--even a fraction of a second matters very much when the game is that optimized. Now on the other hand I don't think any console category is as optimized as NIS on PC, nor will it ever be, but I can see it being a controversial issue in the future if let's say, a WR was potentially decided by it.

I don't run console so I don't have a horse in this race, but I still care about leaderboards being as accurate as possible, so this one is up to the console runners on if you want to carry the baggage on that or not, since at the end of the day we're all just trying to have a good time and the Intro very quickly makes this game not fun. We'll try to talk more about this throughout the week and the next since it's a busy time, and I encourage everyone to keep discussing (just keep it civil, please).

As a console runner there is no so many categories optimized on the game (maybe assisted but not fully), but yeah it doesn’t matter what time you have when you pause. That pause at the start of the run it’s something that we must do, because it would help us to see if the time subimitted is right or not

I would gladly take a no intro category even if it means it could be slighty inaccurate

I thought it was worth noting the small inaccuracy but overall, I think there's too many hurdles with RTA on console, namely older consoles being at a disadvantage due to their slow HDDs and the fact it would be less accessible since everyone would need a capture card. It seems fair enough if the majority of console runners are happy to use the IGT method since it's really the only realistic option

China

If no intro of console can be made , that'll be very interesting , but one question still exist. how to achieve it . I hope there's a perfect operation for every one to choose.
