I am not to sure, I highly doubt it is though. I wouldn't recommend submitting it just wait until a mod comes in and replies.

There was a similar situation like this that happened to @Lul_ecks_dee where he loaded a save state to the beginning of the game according to this thread: https://www.speedrun.com/smb1/thread/qam8s

I think its allowed because the save state wasn't used but I'm not entirely sure

Should i just go ahead and submit it?

You can submit it, but I'm pretty sure it won't count, unfortunately. I've inquired about this before, with goofy himself. While we were watching Ethan stream Ethan accidentally save-stated, goofy said if it had finished he believes it wouldn't have counted.

@youtubeman06 that's different because aldyn loaded a save state at the beginning ... not creating a save state in the middle of the run

I'm looking in to this now. I'll see what the other mods say since you did not load the save state. However, keep in mind it's at the discretion of the runner to keep their save state functionality enabled or not prior to a run. I would simply turn off the particular hotkeys/keyboard shortcuts that are mapped to saving/loading save states prior to a run if on emulator if you want to stay on the safe side. If on console, the same applies or you can just use the actual cart to avoid unintentionally setting/loading a save state.

UPDATE: i finally got another run for smb1, slow 8-4 ruined pb but here it is i guess
