Need help getting started

Would love to play this game again, haven't since I was a kid. But I'm not sure how to go about the file process. Can anyone help with some step by step instructions? Sorry I haven't done this before.

Just to clarify, the file we have on the resources tab contains a macromedia projector file which is a .exe file that can run without needing to install any software. Just download what we have on the resources page, extract the contents of the zipped folder, and click the .exe projector file to launch the game. That should be all you need to do!

This game was actually made to run on adobe shockwave (great at 3d games) which is distinct from the much more common adobe flash. As you can see, people often get the two confused!

Please remember to do the courtesy of not lagging your software like the WR holder does :)

having a slower computer is literally the same thing

Matt, thank you for the clarification. I now realize we still do not have the .swf file on its own here yet.

There is no .swf file and there will never be a .swf file because this is not a flash game. Shockwave games run using .dir/.dcr files made in Adobe Director, distinct from .swf files made with flash creation software.

In other news. I am currently bug testing the game on my TI-83 calculator. Looks like it has the desired 0.005 fps and should clock in at 2 s in-game time. Look forward to the new wr, should only take about a month to complete!

Kidding aside, I finally figured out how to get the runner.dcr file to run inside adobe director itself (not actually hard to do at all) which allows me to manually change the game's framerate. Can confirm that IGT is unreliable - when I lowered framerate to 15 fps (the standard framerate is capped at 30 fps) I got a 3:31 attempt first try (and it was trash with like 0 boosts).

Now that I know we can actually modify the game in director (although we can't directly modify any of the original Lingo code), it seems that it MIGHT be possible to build in our own in-game timer which properly counts frames and could theoretically be added for speedurning purposes. However, this might not be possible with the limitations imposed and with the files being in the weird state they are. I am also a total novice to Director (and programming in general tbh) so it might be possible but beyond reasonable for me.
