Mouse Glitch should be banned. What about using Pads?

EDIT: The glitch is banned. Here's a video explaining everything behind it. You can still use mouse, just make sure the polling rate is either 120hz - 250hz by default, or adjusted down. https://www.speedrun.com/enclave/guide/zbh22

ORIGINAL POST: Hi, so as you guys know, if you are using a laser mouse or anything with a modern DPI / accuracy then it will speed up the game when you move it quickly.

This compounds on top of your own comp specs. Back in 2014 when I did the full game run, I did it on a crappy optical mouse to make sure that my DPI wasn't throwing off the game. Now in 2019, it's hard to find an optical mouse, and also computers have all gotten faster. My mouse compared to 2014 is 3x faster, and I also have a 1080ti graphics card. Simply turning to the left regularly... it totally messes things up. I can make fewer circles than you guys and totally crush your times.

The PC game should have support for pads. There's the "config" file in the local files. I'm going to do some experimenting with them and seeing if it still totally messes up the game.

So yes the controller option works, but the config file needs some love to work with what you're using. Myself I'm using DS4Windows to use a PS4 controller. The important part was that the axis rotation didn't allow for the acceleration glitch.

In introducing a reliable standard for the game, I think pad might be the way to go...

I also think it should be banned. Maybe if someone would like to use it there could be a misc. leaderboard for the mouse glitch but since the game is really dead I highly doubt there's anyone who would like to use it.

Yes, it turns into a big fit because there's mice that are too fast, then mice that work, then pads. It's a real shame because this was a fun game to run.

I see no reason to ban such a wonderful thing... If you can, then do it. And if I understood correctly. Why not to use a laser mouse if the optical ones are almost "extinct"? hmmm...

  1. It makes the runs absolutely unwatchable and painful to run the game
  2. People with different hardware/mouse will have different speed gain making it unfair
  3. Even if we dont allow using the glitch it happens unintentionally whenever you turn where nr.2 also applies

So unless people find a way to cap the maximum sensitivity or fix the glitch somehow by perhaps playing at capped framerates or who knows what else the only way to even the playing ground would be using gamepads

@Blacksecret Can you show me this glitch that will breaks my psyche? Maybe I misunderstood smth 🤷

look at the individual level runs

Idk, not so painful and unwatchable as for me. And the unfair component doesn’t change anything for me (If glitch is allowed or not allowed, you still need/preferably buy a new mouse or smth for speedrunning...). Give me money for the new mouse/controller plz Kappa

As I mentioned, if you have a faster computer and higher dpi mouse, no matter how much work you put in to the play (how many circles you make with your mouse), you'll always be faster. To help eliminate the hardware advantage then we need to use controllers. This doesn't take care of all the problems though, because faster hardware still gives faster load times. Setting up your controller properly can be a huge pain though, and then speedrunning this game on PC with a pad is kind of miserable and glitchy.

If I ever speed run this game again, it would probably be on the xbox version.

i guess i never rejected/deleted the IL runs that used the mouse shaking method, gonna do it now before i forget again.. I think Landon and blacksecret really said it perfectly, its kinda silly to allow a glitch that is really hardware dependent.

United States

that is the most unwatchable speedrun....ever haha. pls ban. (on top of the other reasons. pay to win is lame.
