Inconsistent load times

So I recently purchased the switch version of this game, and have taken great interest in speedrunning it. The problem I'm experiencing right now pertains to the load times. The rules state that timing starts upon selecting the new game option, but the time it takes to load the first level can take anywhere from 4 to 18 seconds. I found that starting a new game, quitting to the menu, then starting again makes the load time significantly faster, is that fine?

How fast are load times between versions?

hello. and I am glad to hear you want to run the game. I fully believe that sub 45 is possible.

I did not set the start time. and that is interesting about the load times. I was not aware about it either. I have no problem with a restart, as long as you do everything. haha

Let me know if you have any questions about anything else.

good luck

I've just purchased the steam version, and have noted a few differences, most notably near instant load times and you can no longer move in the air (making escape skip impossible). I don't think the faster load times are worth sacrificing escape skip. This makes me wonder if there should be a glitchless category.

no longer move in the air? I know that if you fall off a ledge you can't move, but if you jump off you can keep your momentem. could that be what is happening?

If the load times are that different, maybe we should start the timer after it loads so as to not give PC an advantage over console?

So I've been comparing the different versions, and from what I can tell the switch version allows changing direction midair, whereas the other versions don't. Odd. It was just released so it might get patched out. Anyway the escape skip IS possible I guess, but it's a lot easier on the switch I'm finding. I have yet to replicate it once on the steam version but can do it very consistently on the switch.

good to hear. Hope to see a run from you soon!

Oh one more thing, could you add Switch to the list of platforms? I can't submit my run yet because of that.

I think I added the switch.

Yup, fantastic :D thanks a ton

Alright, so I've been thinking about this a lot recently, and I have a proposal to convert our leaderboards to In Game Time. The run isn't nearly optimized enough at the moment to warrant counting frames, so we could just do it to the second for now. The loading time differences are just too great to continue comparing them. Obviously we'll still do RTA timing, but the IGT will be the deciding factor in placement.

This needs to be addressed ASAP

I am open for discussion on this topic. I did a rough timing of the loads. pc-12 ps4-22-switch-34 all in seconds of course. so there is some merrit to removing them. but for such a small game with only 4 runners (only 2 active) I am wondering if it is worth the effort?

the problem is the game itself doesn't have an IGtimer (that I am aware of) so we would have to remove the loads manually.

I’ve been thinking about this, maybe if during loads we briefly paused the timer? Or we could give loads their own splits, add them up and subtract them from the RTA time. The only problem I see with that is that the pc loads so quickly the splits might be super small or inaccurate.
