Announcement #1

The game has been accepted and added on 14th December 2020.

All main categories (and subcategories as well) and ILs categories have been added shortly after, same as the rules dedicated to each of them.

The rest of things that are still to be added (i.e. general rules or a guide with detailed instruction on how to retime the runs properly) will be added as fast as it is possible.

Retiming method: the guide explaining in details how all runs are retimed has been added. Here's the link: https://www.speedrun.com/moys_world/guide/6kmnl

Changes in the mod team: @Flewb decided to resign. Thank you for modding the game! At the same time I'm happy to announce that @felipereis11011 became a moderator.

New category: the mod team decided to add another category for ILs. Individual Level runs received a new category called NoPowerUps%. Please check it out and read its rules before submitting a run.

Announcement #4

All leaderboards (Full-game Leaderboard and ILs) have now unified categories, which are: Any%; NoPowerUps%; Stars%; 100%. Notice that NoPowerUps% has been already present in ILs runs, but Full-game Leaderboard lacked it. Thanks everyone who suggested adding it to the Full-game leaderboard as well!

For now there are no categories planned to be added as main ones. As for miscellaneous, they might appear one day, but for now there are no plans to create such category.

Announcement #8

A huge change in the method of retiming all runs, which means both Full-game runs and Individual Levels (ILs).

After discussing the matter for several days and analyzing different ideas on how to improve the method of timing runs, the moderator team ( @Kochen and @felipereis11011 ) has come into a conclusion that the change is needed and there is actually a better method: more clear and possibly more fair, since many fine runs had to be rejected only because the first frame of movement was not visible. It was not that matter of not following the rules, at least not mostly, but rather just using the game's mechanics. They allow to take control of Moy after the first visible frame (the one that's lightened up) appears.

The first frame counted in the process of retiming runs will be the first lightened up frame after pitch black screen (appearing after starting a new game or restarting it) starts to lighten up. It is commonly called as "the first visible frame". The last frame remains unchanged in both categories.

We have also decided to not to retime the runs submitted before the new method had taken effect. The differences in general between starting retiming a run from "the first frame of movement" and "the first visible frame" are minimal and are on the verge of statistical error, however retiming old runs with clearly visible first frame of movement with the new method could've led to have new times being even several seconds worse than initially. All because of waiting for a while to have the first frame of movement clearly visible. It was an encouraged and preferred way of starting a run when "the first frame of movement" rule was on, however if old runs were retimed with the new method, it would be greately unfair for them to have worse times only because the first frame has changed in the rules. Especially when the difference, as was mentioned before, between starting a run right after the level has loaded and starting it on the first frame of Moy's movement, is on the verge of being treated more as statistical error than actual difference.

All runs that have been submitted before or on 21 February 2021, were retimed in accordance with the old method in which the first frame of a run was the frame clearly showing Moy's first movement from the starting position. The last frame of a run has not been changed in the new method and is the same for both methods.

Rules have been already updated; same goes with the old guide that has been archived.

If you have any doubts or questions, feel free to discuss them on the dedicated thread: https://www.speedrun.com/moys_world/thread/8jlrh , or just send a message to one of moderators of this game's page on Speedrun.com

Announcement #9

Few changes have been made on the leaderboards, thanks to @felipereis11011 discovery. The changes are as following:

  • since it is impossible to gather three stars on IL 3-5 (there are only two stars to be collected), Stars% category for this level have been modified to allow players to submit IL runs for this specified level for Stars% category after gathering only two stars. The amount of stars to be collected during full-game run for World 3's Stars% category has been decreased by one star as well;

  • Individual Level 3-7 received two exclusive subcategories due to the fact that @felipereis11011 discovered a shortcut allowing players to go "out of bonds" and shorten a way for a star significantly, which is helpful on Stars% and 100% categories. Therefore two new subcategories were added exclusively for this level's Stars% and 100% categories, which are: "No Out of Bonds" (OoB is not allowed), and "Unrestricted" (OoB is allowed).

The rules were modified accordingly to the changes that had been implemented.

Announcement #10

I would like to inform about my resignation from moderating this game. It was very entertaining to both play Moy's World casually and to speedrun it. I had a lot of fun with interacting with everyone as a moderator and a fellow speedrunner. Moy's World was my first game requested to be added to speedrun.com (and it was eventually added to the database), that's why it will have a special place in my speedrunner's heart, hehe.

I entrust moderating the game to @felipereis11011 , who has been promoted to the Super Moderator. He is the only person I know that is capable of moderating this game well. He knows this game and is professional as a moderator whether it comes to check and retime runs, or to simply interact with others.

I wish good luck for everyone! :)
