hey y'all, fattycakes here just got into speedrunning super mario bros for the nes. forgive me for being a total noob but i am very new to all this so if i make a simple mistake you dont have to bash me over the head or anything just let me know lol. i dont have a stream yet as i am working on that atm, current pc can barely handle recording mario theres no way i could record me the game and stream at the same time atm so my current medium is youtube. like i said i just recently got into speedrunning but am no slouch. been practicing warped runs of smb for about a month now and learning new things while i do it. quite frankly i enjoy the challenge of it.

i am not limiting myself to just mario but for the time being ive decided to push as far as i can with the game. i was also looking into other platformers like smb 3 and dkc games, but for now im going to be playing mario.

(like i said about the noob thing, think i pasted the wrong thing when submitting my run earlier, wasnt a ploy to get y'all to goto my channel lol i just went too fast, the correct link is https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=FUi3iwVD7p8 without the space between ? and v dont mean to embed on my intro post again i apologize for any inconvenience caused)

Nice to meet you. I've recently started speed running myself. Resident Evil HD at the moment but I'm looking to move onto something else very soon. Some of these world records look damn hard to beat but I'll sure as heck try my best.

world records would be nice but right now my goal is flat 5 in smb, it sure is fun and addicting though. i cant play anything else atm because everyday i get a new trick and my pb gets closer and closer to that 5 so i feel a little bit of accomplishment every time i can pull something off in a run flawlessly. maybe its the ocd, maybe its the competitiveness i have with myself and other runners to keep pushing forward, idk but im having a blast

i am curious to see this resident evil hd i really enjoyed it when i was kid, the original resident evil 1, i remember hunters were turd sandwiches though

England

They got really nerfed in the remake. Only one place in the game they can even hit you.

There's tons of runs to watch man. I do rocket launcher speedruns myself. I don't consider myself good enough to speedrun other modes. If knife runs for very easy were allowed then I'd have a go at that. But right now it's normal or hard only.

I'm also thinking of running Metroid since it seems no one here has posted a run. I shall be the first.

well took a little break from mario, blasphemy i know but as soon as i learned the wrong warp in 4-2 runs just became way harder. i have it pretty consistent but still needed a break so for the time being working on ducktales on the nes. the difficulty is forgiving but im having a blast jamming out to the music haha. about a week in and already under 8 mins on difficult

metroid, the bane of my childhood, if its anything like i remember youre going to have fun with that one. 100% or low%?

England

That's really impressive. Ducktales is harder than it looks.

Metroid isn't so bad. I was going for any% but unfortunately I discovered that the world record is an amazing 15 minutes. So I probably won't bother now. No way I'm topping that.

I'm going to try Sonic 1 instead since I own a Mega Drive.

world records are records for a reason, if they were easy anybody would be able to do it right? dont go for fortune and glory, challenge yourself to be better its self discipline and maybe a little bit of ocd lol. and just for your information the journey of a thousand miles always starts with one step so that 15 mins looks daunting but as you persevere youll get closer and closer until one day you pass it without even realizing it, then my friend it becomes apparent that all the time and effort you put into the game has truly paid off. Me? a wr is nice but i just love the challenge and competition i came here to see what the best can do in order to push myself. hope that doesnt come off as being a douche but to each their own i just feel setting a goal that high will only lead to bigger disappointment but if you practice and progress while setting smaller goals you will most likely enjoy the game more instead of it feeling like tedious work. take one game preferably a short one thats fun and play it for a month, i say short so when you mess up a reset wont set you back too much. i hadnt played mario in years, i sucked coming back into it had to relearn everything all over again. my first goal was just to beat it, did that moved on to 1 death run, did that moved on to deathless and from there said "wait a minute im getting closer and closer to 5 mins" so i just kept pushing and pushing. sorry if i come off long winded but i see a competitor in you but i feel setting such high standards will only make you lose interest if you dont meet those goals in a short period of time

edit now i said short that doesnt necessarily mean easy, i thought mario was going to be easy but let me tell you something lol. that game makes me rage something fierce when i do everything perfect and then die on 8-1 because i keep jumping in between goombas nearly broke my sticks, but that is another part of speedrunning frustration if youre pushing yourself too hard why i thought it was best for a break. ill go back with a clear mind and a different attitude, will still mess up of course no one is perfect
