I recently changed to speedrunning on the Switch from emulator but now I don't know how to record my runs. Could someone please tell me how? As well as how to submit them.

I don't have much experience with capture cards and I have heard they are pretty expensive. Are there any alternatives or fairly cheap capture cards out there?

I don't think it's AV. From the looks of it, a capture card is required. Do you know any cheap capture cards or if not could someone direct me to one, please?

you can just record your tv screen or switch screen with your phone if you want

and I also wouldn't recommend playing on switch over emulator as it loses about .5 over the course of a full game run due to the switch running smb1 at about 59 fps and emulator running at 60.098 fps

I'm pretty sure the framerate is the same from the NES to the emulator.

Emulator is the same as NES but with input delay. The switch is slower, as explained, and probably has more input delay overall. So I definitely recommend emulator over switch kosmicBrain.

Wow, I leave for a day and this happens! Um... Can't the timings from Switch be converted to NES timing though? The thing is, I enjoy playing on the Switch much more then on emulator.

The switch doesn't emulate NES framerate properly... Complain to them, not to the leaderboard site.

You can convert it in your own head to know what the run "would have been" if it were played on more accurate hardware. However, it's an ever so slight advantage actually to have a slower framerate. It definitely won't and shouldn't be converted to faster than it actually runs.

There are lots of switch and open emu runs on the leaderboard and they're all recorded at their actual speed... Which is slower than nes.

About the capture card, I found a few good ones on amazon that are under 100 bucks.

Not amazingly cheap, but much cheaper than I thought they would be. (I play on switch too)

United States

you could just film the switch if you're on a low budget

If you own an Xbox One as well you can use console companion to record through HDMI. Works pretty well for me other than some slight framerate issues, but I'd guess it depends on how good your internet is.
