Hi everyone ! I thought a lot about it and I finally decided to give speedruning a shot :)

But I realize I just don't know where to start ! After choosing a game, what happens when there's absolutely no discussion thread on it ?

Thanks for replying !

Welcome :D

Do you mean that there is no leaderboard when you search for the game? If so, then you can request games to be added to the site here: http://www.speedrun.com/requestgame

If you mean that there is no discussion in the game's forum, then that can't be helped. Some games and runners aren't as active as others.

There's a leaderboard, but no discussion on it for tricks, shortcuts and all. And is there a list of games with which entering the speedrunning world is easier ?

Ah, in that case, you'll have to do some research on your own. Or, if there are players but no discussion, then you could try contacting them or starting a new discussion. A good place to start on your own would be to watch any current runs, or search the web for TAS videos (tool-assisted speed run) or segmented runs. Sometimes people start personal projects like those, but they don't spread.

As for games to get started, many people will give you many different answers, the most common being "run what you like". An good point that I saw someone make in a different thread (I think it was emeraldaly) is that you might enjoy a game, but you might not enjoy running the game. Running the game will sometimes be a different experience.

What kind of games do you enjoy, and what type of runs are you interested in?

Thanks for your answer, I think starting will be a lot easier now ! I'll begin with DK64 since it seems really interesting and there's a big community around it :) Thanks a lot !

Yeah, a game that has a large or active community is a great place to start.

Good luck, and have fun!
