Mod Stuff (feat. No Drama or I Will End You)

If I may add a note, adding new mods could be more than just more people to verify runs. In quite a few communities the leaderboard mods serve as a committee to review leaderboard changes and other game related changes such as rules and whatnot. It certainly wouldn't hurt to have more people, and also to have that be the case rather than have a massive community wide argument over changes. Having fewer people in charge of changes that can agree to have civil discussions rather than arguments could be super helpful for this community, based on past experience.

If we're being fair, should we just remove everyone except me, you, Nimbus, and Adam? Because Jared is done with LM. Smoof does runs and verifies times every now and then BooHead and Sarcrai don't do anything for the community anymore

I would be all for it, HD. And Rhombus, we don't need to go handing swords to everyone just to have conversations, the symbol doesn't mean anything. I'm against the thought of the power that goes with it being so readily given to people for no reason, which you haven't argued against because you know that I'm right.

Georgia, USA

Skozzy's not wrong. The sword doesn't mean anything, we're just responsible for making sure the correct times get on the leaderboard.

Well it's certainly not for no reason, but I get where you're coming from. I just thought it might be a good idea to have a smaller group of people to make decisions since when we put stuff to the whole community (namely in discord) then there ends up being a lot of uncivilized arguments that go nowhere.

I don't know who's been mentioning removing me as a mod, but whoever said it they're wrong about my inactivity. I have no interest in stepping down because I am still very much committed to this game.

Georgia, USA

Then you need to get to verifying runs because so far, you haven't verified one run in months.

Minnesota, USA

Maybe it's because they're all taken when I log in? ¤Shrugs¤ But anyway, I was not aware that verifying runs shows more of a commitment to the game then actually doing runs day in and day out for the last 4 years, taking the time to practice and improve. But hey I guess you learn something new every day. If you really want to demod me, you should oh you know, speak with me first?

Georgia, USA

The point of a leaderboard mod is to verify runs, that's it. While you may still be active in the Community, verifying runs is your job, and in real life, if you don't do your job, you get fired. So what's the reason you shouldn't be removed here?

Georgia, USA

That's the point of this forum, and also, it was brought up in the Discord. It took you 3 days to acknowledge this. That shows your inactivity

Minnesota, USA

and yet I was still not notified that I was involved in this conversation? Do you think maybe talking to me and saying "Hey you're being talked about on the forums you should probably say something about it" Didn't cross your mind? To be completely honest, it kind of hurts me that this was brought up and was not specifically told about it. I'm still a part of this community, shouldn't I have gotten a fair warning from someone that I could be demoted? It seems a little going behind my back to me. But whatever, this was never a job to me, and to be honest this shouldn't be a "job". I volunteered to help with this leaderboard ever since it's inception, and just like this community I won't turn my back on it. If you don't think dedication to the game is important and consider this to be a job, then go ahead demote me, but I know where my loyalties lie and that's with the community as a whole.

Minnesota, USA

Just want to say that nobody is demoting you without warning. We're just talking about it and it came up as an option. You can be a part of the conversation if you want, or you can be difficult and stubborn. Your choice, bud! This is a conversation, not a death sentence.

My little input..

I've already said my two cents. I have no interest in stepping down and I don't want to hear another word about without a fair warning. That's all.

BooHead, you rarely stream anymore, and it's never LM. I think yesterday was the first time you've streamed this game in a few months. And I know you're not practicing this game 24/7 offline, so verify some runs because you're about to lose your position.

Minnesota, USA

Well then if that's the case I want to have a word with each of the Mods about this and end this, because I refuse to step down.

I've been talking privately but might as well make a public statement here too.

If the community feels it's the correct decision then it's not about stepping down. The only point of a moderator is to verify runs. There's no social status associated. Hell you don't even have to be active running the game. But it is a responsibility, and if it's not being taken care of then people will take note. You hadn't logged into speedrun.com prior to this post for 18 days, so it's not about other people getting to verify runs first. It's not a demotion, it's not a sign of disrespect, it is more or less a volunteered job. But if you don't show up to your job, you get fired. If the community sees it that way, then that's the way it should be.

I'll come around to verify runs if need be. I do think we have too many mods. I don't necessarily want mine to be taken away, as I'm probably not even done with the game, but I do understand why you would want to remove me as I don't verify many runs anyways, or not in recent times anyways.

After catching up with the current arguments in the thread, I'd also like to add that although getting added as a mod does simply mean we have the right to verify and deject runs, people wouldn't be fighting so hard to keep their spots if their wasn't more to getting a sword then that. Being a mod is more of a social status whether we would like to acknowledge that or not. And I also agree with removing BooHead and Jared if he's actually done with this game. "If you have no involvement with actively playing the game I feel it's silly to have that same person have a voice in what changes could be made to leaderboards, times etc. But I would also like to add that there's no reason they couldn't be re-added as mod if things change and they show more dedication to the game/community. Personally I feel Inactivity or not running the game at all are both fine reasons on their own to remove someone as mod. Obviously we all have real lives to attend to first, but being able to hold on to this social status for no reason other then that you want it seems silly. And when it comes to Me and Mike, "Not entirely sure about Rhombus," But we both have remained active in the community since we joined. We are also dedicated players, "me less, but I've grinded 50+ hours in the last week alone so I'm comin back ;)" Just waiting on my Capture card to come so I can stream. Anyways whoever gets added to the board or removed I won't complain about, but at this point I feel as though people hating on me for getting such good times would the main culprit of me not getting added in this mod popularity contest.

Snap basically just made the perfect statement about this topic, and i honestly dont have anything else to add to that statement, but everything he said is basically 100% true. If you are inactive , your inactive simple as that.

Pennsylvania, USA

Super support what snap said, just would like to addendum to his "not sure about rhombus" point. I haven't been the most active runner, but I'm certainly active in the community. I was never inactive in the LM discord and I've done my best to help people. That's just my own little self bump, not gonna push myself as a mod beyond that.
