Concerning what's beginning to come out...

Question (for anybody that can answer it): Will this and the Ultimate Edition of this game be considered separate games or the same game? Just curious because I'm hoping to get Ultimate Edition and (one day when I get a decent capture card) do a speedrun of the main Shantae mode and possibly more than that.

From what I gather, both versions will be the same for submitting runs, you have the option to select the current patch version of the game ( v1.0, v1.1, etc). Just know, v1.0 is most likely going to be the fastest times the game can be ran on for the shantae only modes. The DLC modes I'm pretty sure are similar across all version patches.

But I'm not a mod here, so I'm probably wrong on everything ...

How would I know which version Ultimate Edition is? I would think the latest version (because I'm planning to get it for Switch), but I could be wrong on that...

Yes, the Switch version will be based on the most up-to-date version of the game. There won't be any separate leaderboards for the Ultimate Edition.

All I was saying is, if you planned to run the game at Top Competitive level then the preferred patch version for the main Shantae Modes is v1.0; which can only be obtained through the original steam version. You can go through the Leaderboards and see the v1.0 version is the preferred version among most top runners in the main Shantae Mode categories. The only route I believe that remained unchanged throughout version patches is the "Glitchless" category, but still, v1.0 is preferred among runners.

Okay. Thanks for answering my question. If I were to speedrun the game, I would likely do the latest version on Switch since I don't plan on getting it via Steam and it would also likely be a Glitchless run. What stinks is that unless I get a capture card, the footage would be AWFUL and I don't know if I ever will because of how expensive they are. But at least I know where I would put the run if I ever do it. Thanks. :D

No problem. And don't be discouraged by what I was saying. You can still get good times on the current versions and the game is a lot of fun to run.

And, you don't have to go all out for recording, you can get a used Elgato capture device on eBay for around $60-$80, and it'll capture anything with HDMI. Just don't use the default Elgato program for streaming, it's useless. Use the 'Video Capture Device' option on OBS.

It's been a while since I've ran glitchless, but you can probably just route in some more gems for potions to make up for the more magic that scimitar uses in the later patches

What JTB said. All together I had come to the conclusion that the later patch would cost a runner around 20 seconds between farming more gems + buying and using more potions to use the same strats with Scimitar that version 1.0 uses. 20 seconds matters at the WR level, but literally every other run (for now) can still be beat without those 20 seconds of extra time save.

Thanks for the tips. When I get the game, I'll try using those tips and do some practice runs. Then maybe I'll try a speedrun. Also, hcfwesker, I have almost no money on me, so the best thing I could do is record with my mobile device. It WILL look TERRIBLE, but I don't really care as long as it works. If I ever get enough money for a capture card, then I may consider getting one.

Any other capture card/recording recommendations other than Elgato? Just trying to find some different possible options...

search on amazon for an hdmi capture device, and just compare prices with legit product reviews. 1 way it would only cost you $20 or so ... is also buy the steam version, then just 'game capture' through OBS straight on your PC ( but that would just be in the case you only planned to record/stream Shantae lol <-- not serious )

I'm doing it on Switch for obvious reasons. So a capture card is likely my only option.

Elgato HD60 works well for me

Preferably something that is $60 or less would be best. Anything more than that would be hard for me to get. Thanks for the recommendations, though! :D
