New to this and need help with LiveSplit please

I'm new to speedrunning and decided after months of watching and playing Doom via steam, I'm ready to try and do a speedrun doing 100%. The only issue I have is livesplit. Questions I have are:- Do I stop and start LiveSplit at the start and end of the level? How do I get it to start and stop at the right point? Do I just make 1 split per level?

Any help would be great?

This is not directly answering your Questions, but this is probably also a possible way: (From what i've seen) it looks like most of the People who use livesplit use the In-Game Timer of that Game that they are Speedrunning. Doom has an In-Game Timer too, but i myself don't really know how they connect the In-Game Time to livesplit, might be a script or something.

The way Doom's timing works doesn't require LiveSplit or any external timing tools. At the end of each level you will be given your level time, and total time. If you are doing a a full episode run, your IGT (In-Game Time) will be your time at the end of E(X)M7, and your RTA (The main timing method here) will be displayed upon completion of E(X)M8. If you're doing a multi-episodic run (for example E1-E3) then, I believe your time is your just adding up the total times at the end of each episode. Take a pinch of salt with that last point though, I haven't ever looked into multi-episodic runs. Hopefully this helps.

The issue with this is if you die, in which ccase you'll need your Livesplit time. I believe there is an autosplitter somewhere (as seen by Looper in his sub 18 minute attempts)

Here's one that works with GLBoom https://github.com/Joca64/Livesplit.Doom but I can't find the one Looper used (it's not this one because he uses Crispy Doom)

If you don't go with an autosplitter then I'd recommend setting your run to "Segmented" in Livesplit. This means when you press the "split" button, it pauses the timer until you press "split" again to move on. You'd press once at the end of the level, and again when you click through the end screen to start the next.

Eventually you're going to want to do full death/loadless runs with demos though, at which point the splits will only be for your own referance to see how far ahead or behind you are since your time will come from in game and what the demo says.

New moderation for Classic Doom/Changes coming soon

Hey everyone so I'm gonna make this short because I have to go to work shortly.

I was made a moderator for the Classic Doom's here on SRC, and there's going to be changes.

  1. All IL's/Episode run categories are going to be removed

This is because DSDA exists. There's no logical reason for I
