Allowing old version that makes the game run TWICE faster

Hi,

https://www.speedrun.com/nfsu1

So I just recently found out that there is an old version on PC that have locked framerate to 120fps, which makes it run TWICE as fast as on other version, which have the framerate locked to 60fps (obviously it was a fix). It behaves exactly as 2.00 speed on Youtube.

Now, the general rule in speedrunning is that you should use a faster version on PC, but that is in regard to glitches and shortcuts, not in regard to game speed.

I am not sure what to do now. If the framerate would be unlocked and the more fps you'd have, the faster the game would become, it would be a nobrainer and I would simply ban it, but considering the framerate is actually locked (engine lock), everyone can compete.

What do you guys think? Ban or allow?

Maybe make subcategories for versions?

I was going to say ask the mod and then I realized you are one, lol.

Um, I mean it's really up to you. There only looks like one release of the game to me, so I'm not sure what the "older version" is exactly. Like, it's literally v1.0 no updates/patches of the game strait from the box while the others aren't or something? If that was the case, it seems like a subcategory for versions would be appropriate.. v1.0, and 1.5+ or whatever the situation is. Seems like it would actually be hard as hell to play a racing game twice the speed, but I guess if there is a demand for it, I don't see why not.

Personnaly, i think it should just be another category (or subcategory ?). I mean, for once it's not people actually modifying the game files, but a real, legit version running at more than 60 fps, so imo it's worth atleast giving it a chance ?

I would personally treat this as a misc. category. I've often wondered what it would look like to be able to change the framerate of a game to whatever you desire, and try to run the game like that. I think it could be interesting, but should not be compared to runs at default speed.

are you sure it's not just syncing to your monitor's refresh rate instead of running at actually 2x60 because if you've got a 120/144hz monitor that's the sort of shit that happens when dealing with PC ports that old

Making it a subcategory makes the most sense. On Perfect Dark Zero there's an OoB glitch that saves a lot of time but you can only perform it on a completely unpatched version of the game so we've made it its own subcat.

Yeah, I solved it with subcategories. Thanks everyone for your opinion!
