Low % Strategies

Hi! I'm actually rather interested in low%, since low% should be one of the 'least' RNG riddled runs because of the lack of Item finding and such.

Has anyone ever attempted low%? Can it be done? What class do you imagine is best for it?

Assuming that classes are allowed (Save for the 'base' class) I'd imagine that Sniper would be best. Unless we count Merc in the old versions that would allow wall glitching.

Are there any other notable skips or bugs that would help a low% Run? What time saves can we apply without picking up items?

I tried a Low% run a few months ago for fun. It can definitely be done, but it's pretty difficult, but can be made a lot easier with a glitch I mention below.

Merc would normally be fastest, but because we can't pick up Goat Hoof or take damage with glass on, we can't go fast enough to go through the doors.

Fastest class would probably be whatever can take down Providence fast enough, since getting to teleporters shouldn't vary too much with each class. I don't know which would actually be fastest for that, but Sniper could be right.

There actually is a notable bug to abuse for Low%. You might be familiar with dying but activating the teleporter. This is showcased in Onin's IGT% run and it resets the in-game timer for the next map so that enemies are not nearly as strong: (skip to 11m18s)

In Onin's video, the way he dies is with the Glowing Meteorite, which obviously can't be used in Low%. So there's finally a use for a similar glitch I found a while back:

The way it works is as follows:

  1. Find the teleporter and activate it
  2. Find a command chest (perfect for low% because they're allowed), best one would be one a boss drops because it's close to the teleporter
  3. Press A on it, and wait for some enemies to spawn near you
  4. Take damage. Right before you take your final damage to die, pick any item from the command chest
  5. You are now invisible but still alive. Kill off any enemies that are alive, no new ones will spawn
  6. Activate teleporter when it counts down, move onto next level

You'd have to do it 5 times in a run, but it's probably the easiest way to complete Low%. The timing to pick the item from the chest is pretty precise, but it's no where close to frame perfect. You just have to make sure to activate it before the enemy kills you.

Low% is rng hell. Its possible but realy hard. I found a way to beat it easy, but i want to clear it without the glitch. You can find the setup in here: http://www.speedrun.com/ror/thread/zokhg

I have now like 100 runs in low% and 4 me the easyest is chef and engenier. Chef has a dmgup when his cleavers hit multiple enemys. Engenier can set up his turrents to tank the enemies.

This was the best run so far (glitchless):

I'd imagine that we'd want to beat this without Shrine reset glitches. I imagine it's possible for sure. But if that's the road we're going on there should be a no glitch low%. Just to show off :)

Using glitches set up in a different playthrough is generally not allowed to begin with.

Well, the death glitch using the chest should be allowed though.

Drenthe, Netherlands

It would, if you don't actually pick up the item. You'd still be timing in RTA of course.

New Jersey, USA

You can't pick up items after you turn invisible, so it's a non-issue.

Why does this category exist? 'Tis crazy! @_@ Any REAL tips? (glitchless if possible) Made it to level 3, had a decent luck w/ bosses (nothing crazy, pushovers), then failed at crowd control...

Tried Sniper, Commando, and Acrid! Best results happened to be with Acrid, but s(he) is a slow walker for dayZ! And I agree with some, RNG is full on there!

Check out my run for low% if you're looking for a reference for glitchless. The only character worth using for low% solo glitchless is acrid for sure, all I can recommend for the stages leading up to the final boss is kite like crazy with your 3rd and 4th skill, never put yourself in danger if you dont have to.

Jumping lets you avoid a lot of damage, jumping and attacking is important.

Focus on just trying to beat the game low% before going for a good time, its a challenge before its a speedrun.

Yeah, Acrid is amazing imo but slow...low% with dump truck-rid...

IF ONLY...there would be low% but you take 1 item...and that's it!
