New "Wrong Warp" Glitch in Lite (Amiga), Category Change?

So our good friend Frozenspade discovered a glitch recently in the Amiga version.

This glitch allows you to "wrong warp" at the Dread Map screen AFTER you have picked up one of the Map Pieces. Check it out:

Also he has posted a new Any% Lite WR time using this glitch. So what we need to discuss is does this record overwrite the current Lite WR or should a separate new category be created?

I personally am on the side of creating a new one. I feel the any% route (both categores) should be preserved as they are the "proper" fastest way to finish the game and provide the greatest challenge to a runner. The time saved using this glitch is too great and cutting out too much of the run, thereby making it easier and therefore belongs in its own category imo.

How do others feel about this? I have not accepted the new WR yet and would rather wait to get opinions from others before we continue.

I wanted to fully understand the nature of the glitch before I decided what my opinion on the situation was. I have been doing some testing and I think I finally understand what is going on with this glitch. So first off to trigger the glitch you need to overlap the "new map piece" Lechuck Cutscene with the "travel to new island" cutscene, and immediately scene skip. However, here is where things get interesting, when aWay0fLife attempted to recreate the glitch he was wrong warped to a different location. So I went on a hunt to find out why we both got wrong warped to different locations. One theory was that there was something going on locally on our computers that was different, so I testing recreating the glitch on a different computer, and when I did I got an interesting error message that read "Could not loud monkey2-amiga.c99". The weird thing about this error message was that this did not quite match up with the normal save game naming scheme of "monkey2-amiga.sxx" So I went to look for where this .c99 file came from. I noticed the date lined up with my recent stream of me playing regular any% and during my WR run, I noticed on the screen I had been getting wrong warped to, I had accidentally clicked on dread's map in my inventory. This is what creates this weird .c99 file, possibly a leftover debug tool the developers used. Interestingly the .c99 file also can get created for the DOS version of the game, but the glitch seems to only get triggered in the Amiga version of the game.

So now understanding how this glitch works, my run is obviously invalid(although it was a fun thought experiment while it lasted). Obviously a separate category seems pointless with this knowledge, although it will be kind of annoying running LITE on Amiga version now, because if you attempt the glitch WITHOUT the .c99 you hardlock, and triggering the glitch would invalidate the run imo. Now its time for me to get the WR LITE the old fashioned way.

So that's that. I have invalidated the run and any future runs utilizing this glitch will not be accepted.

Remember this only affects the Amiga Version of the game when playing in Lite Mode.

I had the glitch happen to me last night, but it was not during dreads map, instead it happened during the first voodoo lady dialogue scene. And also it was during an Any% run, so it CAN happen outside of running Lite mode.

It just randomly happened while I was spamming though the dialogue, I don't think I clicked anything other than Esc, 3 and [.]

Was that your .c99 save that you warped to or something different?

United Kingdom

Ok ignore all that crap, I just found out you can load savegames using Ctrl and 0-9 and I had a savegame at the EXACT point I "warped" to. I don't understand HOW i managed to hold down Ctrl while skipping dialogue, but it must be the reason.

Here's my first Glitched run. I set up a warp to right after the LeChuck fight and just had to get through the dialogue to finish.

Does everyone think this is legitimate? I personally would rather include a lechuck fight with all his RNG as part of the challenge and experience of doing a run. But what say ppl?

Seems legitimate to me.

Yes that is what it means, you have to look at dreads map at the point in the game you want to warp to. So including the set up as part of the run is doable but it would only involve loading up a save file, looking at the map and then resetting and starting a run. I don't think its important enough to include considering its so quick and easy.

Attention Monkey Island 2 Speedrunners!

It has been a long time coming, but we are finally making updates to the Monkey Island 2 leaderboards. As we have learned more about the how the game works and as ScummVM (the tool used by most runners to play the game) has been getting updated, it was becomi
