I was fooling around practicing my bom omb clip, when all of a sudden, i long jump and land on a goomba, and sends my flying even further. Could this shave off 2 seconds of a speedrun?Just wondering.
Definitely not 2 seconds, but you are onto something - the longer you stay in the air, the more speed you accumulate so it might have actually saved you ~2 frames if you held the joystick perfectly forward and the spacing lined up… more like 1 frame if it happened on the wooden bridge because the bounce bought you less extra air time
However, this is pretty much the reason why, given no better alternative like a steep slope, it is often faster to instead jumpdive-rollout in RTA or slidekick-rollout in TAS. Longjumps are easy and fast but rarely optimal because you do land earlier than after a jumpdive and dustless rollout
Yeah but I found a way that makes the Goomba stay perfectly in the middle of the bridge. Before the level starts, you press the button that makes Marios camera behind him, just like you do after Lakitu skip. You long jumb over the pink bomb omb, and now the goomba automatically moves in the center. Works most of the time
@mrKerij Well,it might not be faster but i still want to watch it!
It was just an idea didnt necessary mean it was faster. But idk maybe in the future it'll be used for something.
Ey bois I found out something new. I was still pretty bummed out because the goomba thing really looks cool. So I longjumped till i was at the goomba from the bridge, I dashed, and right before I got up I hit the goomba and it gave a bigger boost. I think this is faster then the original route.
We would like to announce that VC and EMU subcategories are now active on the Stage RTA leaderboards (under "Levels"). Stage RTA involves collecting all the stars in a given stage including the 100 coin star. Timing starts on star select and ends upon collecting the final star. You are allowed to us
